Poland Seminary High School marching band will perform at BCS game

Nick Olesko has runied Poland's band with his attitude, treatment of students, and Napoleonic ego. I'm an alum of Poland and what was once something that the community can take great pride and had over 300 students in it has become laughable.

The band sits around and often times doesn't paly a single note during the third quarter of football games. Oh wait, they're "tired" and need a break. What's even more alarming is they receive physical education credit for this while athletes don't.

Shame on you, Nick Olesko for ruining Poland's band, shame on the powers that be in Poland for rewarding such reckless behavior with tenure, and shame on the BCS for spotlighting this.

Kasich’s speech will highlight his successes

Political views aside, I find it very refreshing that the highest elected executive official in the state is writing his own speeches

Iowa WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos of Campbell arrested on drug charges

@jroelley35- you hit it on the head

I'd first like to start off by saying I hope he gets his act together and this is his only slip up. Just because you are a drug dealer doesnt mean you cant play in the NFL. I wish him well.

But this may qualify as the dumbest move by anyone from the ytown area in recent history to be in the news for the wrong reasons. We all knew Pavlik was a white trash drunk, "Team Pavlik" tried to hide it but they fooled no one. Maurice was a hoodrat and no one thought otherwise. But considering the opportunity Derrell had this is sickening. And also considering what the Koulianos family did for him and for him to do this, is absolutely sickening.

HUD to Mahoning Valley: Drop dead

Maybe this really shows how much Comrade Obama really cares about this area. Nancy Pelosi's leash must not have been long enough to let Tim Ryan bark loud enough to change (or attempt to) people's minds.

Faithful shoppers lament loss of Poland grocery

What people seem to forget is that Phar-Mor was in that same building and did well. It's closing was not competition/revenue based as this one is. People will shop there if it is worth it. If it re-opens as an IGA with more name brand items, it has a much better choice than save-a-lot. If Nemenz can keep prices low on identical items that you can find across the street at Giant Eagle, he will do well. It's that simple.

Ohio casino jobs promise is misleading, study says

SWEETEDDIE,

May I suggest the caps lock key.

As sotired suggested, the State constitution is not that hard as people think. The issue is not where these casinos are at the beginning, it is what they will provide. Youngstown fits the location for a casino due to the amount of people that hemorrhage out of Ohio to go to Mountaineer to gamble. But honestly, where in Youngstown can a decent facility be built? Everyone needs to see the proposed plans for Dan Gilbert's facility in Cleveland. It's an absolutely mind blowing facility. No person with the necessary money has the desire to build in Youngstown, nor should they.

The bigger picture is that Ohio NEEDS this. Regardless of jobs and what these studies say, keep the tax revenues in Ohio that flow constantly to WV, PA, MI, IN, Windsor, and Niagara in Ohio.

High school sweethearts shot dead

To Denise Dick, Mark Sweetwood, Tom Wills, and the entire staff at the Vindicator:

I would like to commend you on the job you did with this story.

Let us not forget that is is their job as reporters to REPORT THE NEWS. How they choose to do it is up to them. As we all know and probably are well aware (actually I take that back, most of the creatures posting on this forum have clearly showed their poor awareness, incompetence, and lack of common sense.) not only is The Vindicator a news outlet, it is a business. And given the current state of newspapers, I certainly hope the the staff at the Vindicator would think about that before publishing the story. They have no personal vested interest in this story, they put their professional credibility, integrity, and reputation on the line with every story they publish. They report the news to people who want to read, like me, a Valley resident currently living out of town. If you do not like it then simply DON'T READ IT.
