Activists open gay meeting center

I have been watching the comments on this discussion board for some time and have been fascinated by the dialogue. As a member of the Mahoning Valley Pride Coalition, I am extremely proud of the work being done at the Center. We have many people, gay and straight, working tirelessly to help provide a better life for others in our community. From participating in Operation Holiday Cheer (sending Christmas cards to our troops) to providing support to young adults experiencing hatred such as what is being expressed on these boards, our members are anything but unstable. They are hard working Americans who want a better life for themselves and those in the Mahoning Valley.

Stan, I must say, I do NOT think Jesus would want you as HIS spokesperson. I grew up going to church and my church focused on the love Jesus shared and how he spent his time with the people who were considered the outcasts of society. Somehow, many Christians (and I hesitate to call them such) have lost sight of Jesus' message. As a Christian, you should be practicing what Jesus practiced--embracing those who are different from yourself (and yes, saysithowitiz, it should be ALL people!) instead of preaching intolerance and working to convince people they are immoral. Then again, none of us perfect, right?

Youngstown church welcomes gay, bisexual, lesbians to its congregation

I would like to thank everyone for their honesty in this conversation. I know a few of you well and I am happy to call you friends and, for that, I am grateful!

Lucy--thank you for being there with us for Equality Ohio's Lobby Day. I was moved beyond words to see such support! You and your sis-in-law were able to take a stand for equality when so many others within the gay (umbrella term) community feel unable to even stand up for themselves.

We must no longer live in the shadows and be silenced by the oppressive and hate-mongering individuals in the Valley. We must live out loud and be proud of who were are and what we have accomplished in our lives!
