Will new owner of Y&S rail be ‘good neighbor’ for Boardman?

the Boardman Trustee meeting on
Tuesday May 15, 2012. At that meeting, the trustees advised us that the rail
line that runs along Southern Boulevard had been purchased by a Canadian company
to service the shale industry. They also told us that the new company was
requesting permits to:
1. Add 1000 cars
2. Increase the speed from 10mph to 25mph
3. Carry hazardous waste

I've requested additional information from the trustees, including a copy of the
permit application(s) if possible, and also who is responsible for
approving/denying these applications. We need to mobilize to stop this from
happening. I can't see any good coming from hazardous waste being transported
next to our homes, our hospitals, our schools and our businesses.

I'll post more as information becomes available. In the meantime, PLEASE don't
wait - take action. Call your lawmakers and encourage your friends and
neighbors to do the same:

Ronald Gerberry 614-466-6107

Youngstown mail processing and distribution facility to close in February

What a shame, that an area such as ours is not "profitable" enough to keep this facility open. Not to mention the 500 laid off workers. Well maybe they can start training for drilling jobs. Can't wait to see the decline in service, the lost mail, the checks and other important information that does not arrive on time because it has to make a side trip to Pittsburgh on the way across town.

City plans to wreck Wean, add parking lot

Woodberry said. “We would have a prime downtown site available for development. That’s prime real estate.”

So lets turn it into a parking lot, where no cars will park because there is nothing down there to draw people

I know it would cost money, but why not refurbish the building, like the did for Quaker Square in Akron and turn it into shops,
Where is the vision? We can drive to Grove City, or Pittsburgh or Cleveland and shop at William Sonoma, or Crate and Barrel or other stores like that.
Sure it was an eyesore, but that is because nothing was done with it.
Any other ideas, before they tear it down.
How about some kind of science center with research capabilities, housing, anything but a parking lot.

Buyer beware

Peggy and Becky , that is wonderful of you to offer to help this man.
Sure this guy may have made a mistake in his reasoning. , hell, even a house like this would go for 100K in California.
We can really show this man what this valley stands for by stepping up and helping him. He might even tell some of his friends what a great place the valley is and they could move here also. Hope to see some kind of action group gathered to assist this man.

Valley drilling on the move

All for economic development, God knows we need it in this area. But at the same time this type of industry has been in New York and Pennsylvania for sometime, they have experience that we can gain from.

Utica Shale gas drillers primed to dig in Mahoning Valley

Just saw a new drilling site, in the back yard of a house on Midlothian, between Erie and Southern.
Imagine being a neighbor to that, although there are a lot of abandoned houses in the area. I am starting to think this might be a reason that so many out of state and out of country people have been buying properties in the area, sell the mineral rights and make a killing. Sure would like to know who offered that advice and how the "groundfloor" opportunity was announced.
