Deconstruction work salvages young lives

Funny how this is exactly what Steve Novotny was trying to get the city to do several years ago minus the use of students and the city fought him tooth and nail but now since someone else is suggesting it all of a sudden it is a GREAT idea. Don't get me wrong I have always been a fan of deconstucting over filling the land fills but I just don't understand why the city didn't support this 2 years ago...maybe because Mayor Williams is gone now...

Volunteers toil to restore veteran’s N. Side house

As one of the many volunteers on Saturday I have to say it was one of the best days ever. Regardless of the wind and cold so many people turned out to help Rik make this house a home for him and his 2 great dogs. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone work so hard and to see the change that was made in the 5 hours that I was there. I look forward coming to the next day of work and can't wait to see this fantastic home when it is complete. Great Job everyone there are some really good people in Y-Town no matter what some people think.

Dozens walk on Youngstown's West Side in stand against violence

As one of the organizers of this walk I thank all of you for your support. We knew at the start we would be at the mercy of the weather and although we would have prefered the unseasonably warmer weather we were having we knew it might not be. We want to thank all the wonderful people who braved one of the coldest days this winter season to show your support. We incourage all residents of the West Side to attend our monthy meetings on the 2nd Tuesday at 7pm at Fellows Riverside Garden at Millcreek Park. Our next meeting is Valentines Day. Thank You all again..with your help We will continue the fight.

Shooting on city’s West Side seriously injures mom, son

I had not heard anything about this but on Friday I was walking my dog past there as a man approached one of the apartments. Another resident yelled to him "the store is closed"..right away I knew what he meant. It may sound heartless but I say let them keep killing one another then maybe the Westside can clean up and be a great place to live again.

Help save 50 dogs Saturday

How long has this guy been on the job? This is the second article I have read about him doing something good to save the animals. What was that other idiot doing the whole time he was in that position? Finally someone that seems to care about the animals and not just there for the paycheck.
Good Job Matt

West Side home damaged by fireworks

This is yet another reason why the City and the State need to start cracking down on the fireworks law. Here it is 15 days past the 4th of July and we are STILL dealing with the idiots that have to blow something up. The fireworks on the west side (I live on Wesley) started on JUNE 18th and obviously are still going on. How long do we have to deal with the late night noise, scaring our dogs half to death and now property damage? I understand the police have major crimes to deal with but with the fiscal issues this city is dealing with the $1000.00 fines for illegal fireworks could maybe balance the budget if inforced.

HUD probes city’s $11K payment for asbestos work

Decontstuction is the wave of the future. All one has to do is watch any home improvement show and the major talk is reuse and recycle. 20 yrs ago This Old House was visiting salvage yards to buy pieces for their projects. Sorry to say that Y-Town and the area are still stuck in the mindset...tear it down and fill the land fills with our trash. As to Novotny just trying to stir up things..he did try and report the issue to the persons in charge but was brushed aside so he took it to the next option. As stated by Ytown411 if the Mayor has nothing to hide then there should not be an issue. Though the naysayers might be surprised by the outcome.
