Downtown vigil backs marriage equality

Get over it people...not long ago it was illegal for the races to marry. If people are in love than they deserve to marry with all the legal rights that are awarded to a union between a man and a woman. It should not be anyones business but theirs. These couples do not pry into your lives and tell you how to live so don't pry into theirs. I lived long enough to see a black president I hope I live long enough to see a day when this will not be an issue and a person is allowed to marry the one they love. And for all of you that are curious...NO I am not gay...Just open minded

The law requires banks to post a $10,000 bond with the city if they foreclose on a property

Ytownnative maybe you should reread the article. The bond will only be required if the bank decides to forclose on a homeowner. The city spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year just to do mowing on all of the empty lots and houses some of which have been forclosed on but the banks have chosen not to maintain. Why should the city residents be accountable for the blight that these banks have caused. It is time for them to suffer the consequences of their actions. Any bank that is compliant will not have to worry about the bond being used.

Donors say giving blood is easy and is a good feeling

I used to give every 56 days like clockwork but when the Red Cross nurses went on strike I refused to cross the picket line. Once they came back to work I started up again but now the Red Cross has closed their donation center on Westchester Dr and it has been very hard for me to find a site that fits into my work schedule. I loved knowing that the donation center was open every Sat and when my 56 days were up I could just schedule an appointment or stop in. I have given well over 10 gallons and want to continue because the need is great but the closing of that location has made it difficult.

Dead dogs found on Youngstown's West Side

An irresponsible pet owners dog probably got pregnant and instead of doing the humane thing and finding homes for the parents and puppies they killed them instead. If they find out it was intentional these people need prosecuted...we need stricter laws for animal abuse
PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS..there are too many unwanted dogs and cats that are the result of not properly caring for your pet.

Ohio EPA official: Lupo dumped at least six times

Mr. Lupo obviously has a blatant disregard for the environment and the health of the residents not only of Youngstown but all who live along the Mahoning River. I am sure he would not dump this material in his own backyard but feels no remorse about doing it in ours. First his business practices caused damages with the earthquakes and now he is attacking our water ways. “I did it at night because I was doing the right thing. I didn’t want someone thinking I was doing the wrong thing and create an uproar” If you are doing the right thing you don’t hide under the cloak of darkness. He knew what he was doing was wrong and was hoping not to get caught. My concern is that first he admitted to 20,000+ gallons and now just a week later is stating it could be as much as 250,000 and not just once but up to 6 times. His well on Salt Springs was shut down a year ago and he waited till Sept to start dumping the overage. I DOUBT THAT.. I am concerned we will soon find out he has been dumping since the shut down. We need to shut this man down and file charges to the fullest extent of the law. I just feel bad for his employees that rely on him for paycheck, they do not deserve this.

Shootings joined cheer for new year in Youngstown

This is the only city I have lived in where it seems to be ok to shoot a gun on New Years eve. Maybe it is time to rethink that...

Mabel, bulldog stolen in Youngstown, found in Columbus

When I read about this yesterday it made my week. It is good to see that Youngstown is getting some good press, AND yes there are some GREAT people here. Now that Mabel has been found lets put the heat on the POS that stole Adam and Eve from their owners home in New Castle.
And Gordy have you been living under a rock the last several years? Jobs are hard to find and good paying one are even harder. The man is making a living and providing for his family who are you to judge?

Youngstown firefighters say vacant-house fire on West Side was arson

I live the next block over and was jolted awake at 4am by the smell of smoke coming in my open window. After making sure my house was fine I noticed what looked like smoke so I called 911. Driving by it this morning I noticed there was a For Rent sign in the front yard so I am not sure how much reno the new owner was planning on doing. The house next door is vacant also and looks like it is in worse condition. Hopefully the city will demo both. I would much rather see vacant usable land then falling down houses but arson is not the way to go and thank goodness none of the hardworking firemen and women were injured.
