73 CHARGES FOCUS ON PUBLIC-PRIVATE CONFLICTS

Let’s face it, the Oakhill project was then and is now ill-advised. Oakhill IS a money pit. “In July 2006: The county buys Oakhill in U.S. Bankruptcy Court and keeps the city health department and coroner’s office there, but assumes responsibility for MORE THAN $900,000 worth of mortgages and liens.”

Smart, fiscal gov’t? Are you kidding me?! In this financial climate, which was worse off in 2006? Thank goodness someone decided to fight for the public’s interests. Who actually voted to take on this debt? Rhetorical question, because of course it was Traficanti and his buddy Ludt - did they EVER vote any other way than with each other? What a farce.

Hopefully justice and common sense will prevail and it will come to light that McNally, Sciortino, et al were fighting for the public’s interest and well being. It took how long to actually come up with these indictments, which also tells me they do not have much in the way of hard evidence to prove these charges.

Let us ALL remember, an indictment ISN’T a sign of guilt.

As for the editorial piece that suggests “County Commissioner John A. McNally IV and county Auditor Michael V. Sciortino have placed their own well-being and that of political benefactors above their duty to the public,” I have never known McNally to put his own interests ahead of anyone’s - in his personal OR professional life. He is a class act and truly cares about the community. He truly wants to make Youngstown a better place for the people. We would be lucky to have 10 more just like him in public office in this area.
