YSU gears up for presidential search

Gdog,

The last statement regarding Anderson spending the money to renovate Wick Pollock is incorrect. Granted she was in office when the renovations began, however the monetary allocations and professional design services were handeled under Dr. Sweet's tenure.

Therefore, Dr. Sweet and the Board of Trustees are responsible for the Wick Pollock project...not Dr. Anderson.

Levies would generate $1.1M more

So here we go again, another proposed increase in taxes in Austintown. Are you kidding me? Do the trustees really think that all we have is spare change laying around...like another $220 per year...or $20 per month.

Oh what am I saying, this is Austintown, the residents vote YES for every levy.

If the fire department is operating OK on its current revenue, why do they need to double it? With the new Racino supposedly coming soon, wont that generate a substantial increase in revenue for all departments? Why do they need this now?

Wise up people.

I am seriously tapped out and cannot handle any more taxes....but it seems that most people in Austintown have money trees since they vote YES for everything.

It is about time that the voters refuse MORE taxes....especially since the new Racino should pay for more than, we the hardworking taxpayers can afford. Vote NO.

Biden: Voters have clear choice in 2012 election

I am not a clear fan of either candidate at this point....however, how can I justufy voting for the incumbent POTUS when all he does is circumvent and overlook the Constitution. I have never seen so many executive orders in my life that are a detriment to the United States.

For instance, how does the POTUS justify an executive order, which side steps the legal process, allowing hundreds of thousands of illegals to stay and not be deported on facts that they have been here since they were children. Give me a break. And people wonder why this country is in the state it is in.

One can find articles on Fox News and CNN about this.

I am all for illegals coming to this country...but the right way. Apply for a Visa, get a work permit then a Green card....not hey you came here illegally and ohh guess what here is your citizinship and permanent work permit for just being here.

Levy would help offset cuts

Tax,tax,tax and more tax.

Money is needed for everything but all we hear anymore is levy, levy, levy....more, more, more.

The schools scared everyone into voting for the new levy because they said they would lose the money....they lied and everyone fell for it again. Are we going to see the same scare tactics with a police levy by saying that their forces would be cut?

There are always cops sitting around talking, you can always see at least two of them parked in opposite directions. Lately there has been a cop stationed in the walmart parking lot....are we paying for this or is walmart.

Drugs and crime, those are other issues that cant even be touched right now since there are so many documented cases of slaps on the wrist.....i digress.

But dont worry, Im sure the gullible taxpayers will foot the bill again for more money since everyone seems to have a money tree in their backyard to pull from whenever the public sector wastes away the tax dollars.

Cut the fat and show us what concessions the public employees are making...then maybe ill consider it.

Obama: Gadhafi must go

This Article should read as follows:

[U.S.: Obama must go

The people of the United States insisted today that President Barack Obama leave office, declaring he had lost his authority to lead.

"Barack Hussein Obama (or whoever he is) has lost the legitimacy to lead and he must leave," the American public declared at a news conference.

Pledging to hold Obama and his cronies accountable, the public said the U.S. and the entire world were outraged by the incompetence and lies of this adminsitration.]

Here is an idea Obama, shut your mouth and make statements about the state of this country and the US/Mexican borders that are being overrun during your conference with the Mexican president. Tell us how you or the government are going to fix the problems of this country rather than running your friggin mouth about the affairs of Egypt, Libya and all other countries.

UPDATED WITH CHARGES: 7 indicted in Oakhill case

OK next, Traficanti, Ludt and Tablack need to be investigated for puppeteering.

McNally & Associates are being indicted for the purchase of the building while Tablack and his puppets are making out with the renovations to the money pit.

People need to look into the commissioners meetings and building commission meetings to really see what is going on.

Hopefully all of the garbage will be cleaned out and the county can start over again.....this time on a positive note.

LeBron to leave Cleveland for Miami Heat

Why does everyone keep saying in some form or another that he was in Cleveland for 7-years, gave it his all and never won a ring?

Some people compared him to Michael Jordan, however the major differences are:
1. MJ waited for the right team to be built around him and never gave up on the Bulls even though they were bounced from the playoffs a few times. MJ always stayed true to his team and he proved the old saying "good things come to those who wait."
2. MJ never blatently gave up or quit playing during a playoff game (even when he was hurting) and always wanted the ball, as a great player does, or "closer" as alot of people call them.
3. MJ played in the NBA for 8-years with the Bulls before winning his first championship in the NBA. Before the NBA MJ played college ball with North Carolina for 3-years while Lebron came to the NBA right from high school. Given that comparison, it had taken "the greatest basketball player of all time" essentially 11-years to win an NBA championship after coming out of high school. LeBron is 7-years out of high school and does not have a title.

LeBron is a great basketball player with incredible talent but, in so many words, has placed himself into the category of a complimentary player now that he is going to play alongside a "closer" like Wade has proven to be.

Since he has made his rediculous "decision" on national TV he has proven to me that he will never compare to MJ since he has pretty much admitted that he needs to compliment other players to TRY and win a championship rather than taking the ball when the game counts and do it on his own like so many true greats before him have done. I know that MJ was his favorite player, as was mine growing up, but he has really proved to everyone that he did not deserve to wear No.23 on his back.

Personally, I feel that LeBron, Wade and Bosh had this free agency year set up from the time they all played in the Olympics together (maybe even when they came into the league the same year, but that is a stretch) and they all knew what was to transpire in 2010 due to some sort of collusion.

The signs may point towards the previous statement; he signed his extension in 2006 to play thorugh 2010 with a player option for 2011, Bosh's statement on the picture of him and Wade that someone is missing, did he give up in the playoffs trying to make the fans in Cleveland turn on him or lose faith so that his "legacy", that he has truely tarnished, would remain in tact when he signed with another team and using the fans reactions to him as an excuse that he let the city down?

Because of his "decision" LeBron is and will remain a good basketball player but he will never be remembered or referred to as an MJ, Isaiah Thomas, Bird, Magic, etc. He will be remembered as the modern day Scottie Pippen that had to supplement other key players just to TRY and win a championship that may or may not happen with the Heat.

Are Tablack’s days numbered?

If Tablack is an accountant as he says he is, why did he not read both reports and crunch the numbers as a real Administrator should have done, or at least one with his supposed professional knowledge of monetary matters before trying to get the motion passed? Why didn't Traficanti and Ludt crunch the numbers before they were going to vote? What was the urgency to get this resolution passed? Why did they not perform their duties as elected (and hired) officials and react accordingly?

The other matter at hand is the condition of the existing building envelope of Oak Hill. In order for this building to be energy efficient, the envelope would need to be upgraded. This would entail new windows, added wall insulation and increased insulation values to the roof. If the building is not air-tight and cannot retain heat and deter air infiltration what good does replacing the heating system do? Absolutley nothing!!!

Tablack, Traficanti and Ludt wanted to approve a motion to spend $2.5 million to install gas boilers, when the proper reports indicted that it was the wrong move, while they could have approved $500k to repair the existing steam systems. Keep in mind that there were no Architectural or enevlope improvements included in the $2.5 million estimate. Would they have then tried to pass a motion for another $2-$4 million dollars (as an example) to effectively repair or upgrade the building itself?

You can search the Vindy for articles related to this matter and also obtain copies of the reports from the Commissioner's Office if you really want to reasearch this subject.

The underlying issue here is complete mismanagement. Or is it that someone was trying to grease their pockets?

The core problem here is our elected officials and their hired, overpaid help. If they actually had the best interests of the taxpayers and the County in mind, they would have never tried to initiate a motion to vote on a subject without reading and examining all of the facts.

A BIG change is needed in our County Government and it is needed now. No more incumbents that get elected because people do not follow government and do not do the proper research on their efforts to ensure that they deserve another term. We need to stop these officials from hiring a puppeteer to pull their strings.

On another note, If the grass is more lush and greener in Florida why would someone return to a weed infested field? Better eating for the cattle?

I have been in the construction industry for the better part of 20-years and have attended multiple public meetings at the County when alot of these matters were discussed.

I encourage everyone to educate themselves on this matter and all other dealings with the County to really see what goes on behind closed doors.

Are Tablack’s days numbered?

Do any of you have any idea what goes on behind the scenes? Has anyone ever been to a Commissioners Meeting? Has anyone ever been to a Mah. Cty Building Comission Meeting? Are any of you really familiar with Architecture, Engineering or Construction?

The comments about the County needing to get out of Garland are completely validated. The County needed to stop paying rent and be spread all over the County which they rectified by purchasing Oak Hill albeit the lack of research and the legal troubles which are now incriminating certain personalities.

The fact of the matter is that Oak Hill is a maintenance nightmare and energy hog (for lack of better terms).

The building is an old hospital with some parts built more than 30-years ago. The major fact is that the building CANNOT be easily converted to an energy efficient building without major capital investments that the County does not have. Old buildings are not ideal over new construction because you cannot control the Mechanical. Electrical and Plumbing Systems and Building Envelope that is existing. In new construction you can easliy control and select all of these items to achieve maximum energy efficiency especially due to the new technologies that are out there.

If anyone had sat in on any of the Mah. Cty. Building Commission meetings regarding Oak Hill, one could relate to what I am about to discuss.

The current heating system in the building (because of the previous Hospital occupancy and size) is steam from Youngstown Thermal. The Commissioners hired professional engineers to perform a study to look at the benefits and cost savings in changing the building over to gas fired boilers instead of using the steam system because they thought the gas system would be more energy efficient. The original report (performed a few years back) clearly stated that the investment in installing gas boilers (when gas is not currently used in the building) did not provide any type of payback for the County while peforming simple maintence and minor upgrades to the existing steam systems would save the County a small fortune (sorry do not have the exact numbers in front of me) and have a fairly quick payback; a couple of years.

The Commisioners somehow "lost" or "misplaced" the original report, hired another professional engineering firm and retained the services of an Architect. A new report was generated which showed a quick payback in installing a gas heating system with modular boilers. The problem is that the new report did not take into account the capital investments and loan payments required for these improvements which would push the payback to almost never.

During the Building Commission Meetings Traficanti, Ludt and Tablck were proposing motions to vote for the "so called" gas heating improvements when they had admitted that they had never compared the two reports. The other members of the Commision were the ones that raised the red flag.

Continued in next post.

U.S. representatives from Mahoning Valley praise passage of historic bill

What happened to the pre-election promise(s) by Obama?

Obama said that he "will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days."

He has signed both the credit card bill and health care bills without public opinion.

If an applicant would lie on a resume or application to get what they wanted and an employer found out, would they or would they not typically be terminated or relieved of their position? Why does the POTUS not have to follow with these same ethical obligations?

We need to demand the abolishment of the Electoral College and turn to the popular vote for all elections as well as amending the election rights of our President to hold them to the pre-election promises that they all make to get the votes and barely ever follow through with. If they vary from their path then they should be able to be impeached or thrown out of office.

We will never be able to stop all "lying" for lack of a better term but it should be a good step forward in upholding the Constitution (if there even is one anymore) and to ensure that the people of the once greatest nation in the world are properly represented.
