Tree, I am not blaming this on anyone else, at all. The people that did this are solely responsible. However, our environment, peers, can mold our behaviors as well. The community resources that I was referring to, would be, after school programs whether they be in thru the school districts, the churchs, the Associated Neighborhood Centers, Boys and Girls club, the athletic programs that the Associated Neighborhood Centers participated in: the JJC League (and b4 you start screaming over the JJC League, it is not designed for juvenile offenders, anyone could participate) that held sports for volleyball, softball, and flag football. I do not think that these exist anymore, I could be wrong. I don't know what occurs in the suburbs, maybe the kids used to come straight home from school, did their homework and never did any wrong, I could be wrong though.

I agree ytownoptimist. And as the column stated, it may be a hurdle for him to carry the state because of his race, but what confuses me is, if this same group, "the young and the college educated, older white women still vote in larger numbers than any other group. And, they are the ones need to become comfortable with a black in the White House," were the ones that loved Hillary are willing to vote for McCain, because of race, then who cares about the economy, healthcare, or any issues that we are facing, they want 4 more years of the same majority being failed policies, and an unclear future for themselves and their children, etc. It's sad, but not totally unbelievable that we still cannot overcome race. And I cannot wait for the debates, that way we can see what Palin is about, because if McCain doesn't live to the end of his term, God help America if she becomes President. Ohio didn't get it right 4 years ago, but maybe 8 years of problems will knock some sense into the voters.

This is a very good thing for the city and for the school system. Kudos to whoever thought of this plan.

Right, who said that they were kids? And we do not need idiots running around with no guns, because that will cause another issue, I shot him/her because I felt intimidated, etc. Don't deliver pizza in the neighborhood. If someone wants pizza that bad, pick it up yourself. It's unfortunate what has happened to the woman, and I hope that she recovers, and to these nuts that robbed her, are you serious, it took 3 idiots to rob her for 40.00, that's like 13.xx each and a meal. And you know, people have been giving their kids whoopings for a long time, does it really work? I mean, when I got whipped, my dad hit me in my hand with a belt or a shoe, or he just made us write I will not...whatever it was we did 100 times. So I really don't think whoopings are much of a deterence.

And to njb, I do not think that kids are intentionally raised to be thugs, sometimes their environment, such as peer pressure has a lot to do with it or the lack of community resources as well.

I agree with you jmason, but the young people have a mind of their own nowadays. They are talking any kind of way to their parents and the parents are acting more like a friend than a parent anyways. Where are the fathers? I can say that I was raised in a single parent home and that single parent was my father. He kept us involved in activities, by the time it was time to come home, we were too tired or it was too dark to go anywhere. There are some churches that do outreach to the community, but I think that they all need to get together and take back the streets, we need to get aggressive for GOD! People are intimidated by the criminals, again, there is a no snitching policy, and it is sad, but maybe we need to step out on faith and stop being intimidated by the criminals. the only thing that is happening is a cycle, then the next thing you know, your loved one is the victim or the accused. I agree harass the police, they will have no issue harassing you. Bug the politicians of your city, the councilmen and women, the senators and reps in Columbus, the govt harasses you if you do not pay your taxes, harass them and make them earn your vote. And if they still are not doing anything, vote them out of office come election time. Do not just vote for name recognization, because you are getting the same results.

Umm, lets see mi, #1 the same branch that you did, and #2 right before the idiot in office decided to declare war in Iraq. I took a lot from my experience, which is why I know that you are not suppose to tell all to the enemy, and McCain said it himself that he was ashamed, not me. I did 8 wonderful years! And I served, my mother served, my father, my 2 uncles, my 2 cousins, and 3 of my best friends served as well, so what is the point. I never said that I wasn't proud, I have a different perspective of the military, just because I was in that doesn't mean I have to shout for joy as you seem to do.

I do not agree with him, I can say if I was in his position I would do this and that, I'm not, the only thing that I will do is whatever comes to mind at the time, all I know that is if my President is in a tough position, then I would not want him doing something that will jeopardize the country that I live in. If I served in the military, then I must say, yes I truly gave myself to the country, 8 years of myself. You don't know my experience with the military, the things that I may have put up with or the things my mother, father, uncles or cousins, maybe based on what I have went thru and what they experienced, maybe that's what is shaping my judgement about POWs, so maybe you need not be so judgemental. I don't know what color you are, but being Black in the military, ain't that much different than being Black in America as a civiian.

A solution: maybe the community needs to take back their streets. I'm quite sure that there are more people fed up over the violence than the people that are committing the crimes. The only thing that really concerns me is the street code of no snitching. Despite what you say or may think, it is real. I am from Youngstown, born and raised, I grew up on the southside and the Sharonline, but currently moved to a larger urban area, and it is just as bad here. I was with someone and we were just having a conversation about the crime rates and another person mentioned that Ytown is known for its Zero Tolerance on no snitching, and what is disturbing is that the witnesses to this has their full names published. It's only a one degree of separation in Ytown. Also people need to complain to their councilmen and women, complain to your mayor and your police chief and police dept., send letters to the newspaper and the news stations, get something together with your church, Ytown has a church on almost every corner, attend the city meetings, there is ways to solve this issue, put pressure on your community leaders, their duties are to serve us we voted for them, write letters to your representatives that are serving you in Columbus and if you want, in DC as well. There is no way we should be scared, pressure the politicians, make them earn and work for your vote!

Mimi2bc, maybe you need to look over what I wrote, not once did I say if I was a POW this is what I would do. And since you were in the USAF, what did you learn about what you are to do when you are a POW? Do you tell all to the enemy or not? So maybe you need to shut up abnd think about what you were taught, you defend your country at all costs, period. We have military secrets for a reason, if we wanted the enemy to know we would broadcast it on one of the bias news channels and FYI, John McCain SAID that he was ashamed of what he did, I didn't make that up either.

To jfuze, neither is correct, but I am positive that we have some people in the administration that have done it along with other federal agencies. To keep it real, there is so much that goes on that we do not know about.

I for one am tired of the Republicans, and to be honest I am tired of many members of Congress, now, they do and give away tihngs for money and prestige.

Kudos to everyone that has served in the military.
And Mimi, I don't know what made you think I was a man, But I am a Black woman.

jfuze0905, I cannot tell you what it is to be a POW, but since I did serve in the military and got out just in time, I can tell you what they teach you: You do not tell the enemy anything, McCain even knows that, which is why he stated out of his own mouth that he was ashamed of what he had done. You give your life to the country and you serve the country, just imagine if every POW told everything when they were captured. How safe would we really be?
