hey pulaskifarm,
You are correct open enrollment was originally created to foster better educational opportunities. And if you read the exact words in the post you butchered your quote from ( it says that any kid can go anywhere work hard and achieve success) IT DIDNT SAY GO TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL AND HAVE SUCCESS IN SPORTS! The students at private schools do well in all facets of life as well as on the field of play. Why dont you go back to reading the comics its more your speed!

Thank you.... for proving that "the private school league", wouldnt solve anything. Your comment correctly shows that would be impractical since current open enrollment allows for ANYONE to go to the school they choose. And that hasnt caused the formation of 6 youngstown teams. A private league could foster such a terrible occurence.... Thanks for supporting the point!!!... Face it ....any student, can pick where they want to go, work hard and they too will achieve success. You make it sound like there is a finite number of good atheletes in youngstown and if they choose to go to a certian school eveyone else is terrible and unable to compete at a high level. Guess Poland winning state a few years back was just dumb luck.. huh...I personally believe that YOUNGSTOWN and its surrounding areas produce great kids whether they go to private or public schools and am hopeful all the kids in the area know that they have people who supports their success, not just the individuals who spouts off antiquated and erroneous banter .

To all the people who are saying the negative comments, why dont you answer simpler questions.. Several Public schools now have open enrollment so should they also be in the so called "other league" too.? Youngstown is usually in the NATIONAL press for its ability to KILL or due to the POVERTY that is present , should not its residents promote the GOOD coming out of the Youngstown? WE should simply say: To ALL of the KIDS that are succeeding whether academically or athletically from whatever school the TRUE YOUNGSTOWNer's are proud of you ! Not continue to potentiate the NEGATIVE image Youngstown has nationally.

It is interesting that people from Youngstown would be so degrading to a program that brings significant POSITIVE recognitiion to Youngstown. Youngstown's press is usually for how many DEATHS have occured or how bad the economy has affected the city. As for the comments that PRIVATE schools recruit and other PUBLIC schools dont is ludicris. Open enrollment has put that a relic of the past. There are more than a few of the public programs who actively recruit. But that aside, if Youngstown gets positve press NATIONALLY based on any school it should be praised no matter who it is. ALL TRUE YOUNGSTOWNERS should extend a thanks to whomever brings about GOOD press not potentiate the POOR reputation that Youngstown has been known for.
