Youngstown council candidates target crime, development

Several of the candidates for the 5th ward council seat are serial politicians. If you chose a rerun, you're going to watch the same story...again...and again.

Kevin Salata has fresh ideas and is willing to give back to the residents of his ward. He has spoken of his plans to reduce crime with his own personal investment. I agree with his ideas to work with the state to drug screen public assistance recipients. This has occurred in other states. Public money should not be used to buy drugs. I agree with his proposal to reduce the size of city council.

The career politicians have had their chance. It's time for new energy and new ideas. Youngstown will be better off with Salata as a councilmember.

Consider Jim Tressel’s record as a coach and as a person

Re: Tressel.

Well composed and persuasive letter. I did not realize that Bob Hannon was such a good writer.

I agree that the complete record of service should be factored in. Youngstown, and the University, are blessed to have Tressel as a friend and advocate.

If JT were to be fired, all of college football would suffer by losing a living legend. My crystal ball tells me the OSU will meet the same fate as USC; a two year bowl suspension, and JT will remain as HC of the OSU FB program.

Ray, Drennen on right track as Youngstown councilmen

Drug testing those who receive public assistance has been done on the state level. I'm not sure why it couldn't be done on the municipal level. Municipal, state or Federal level...who cares..just do it!

Ray, Drennen on right track as Youngstown councilmen

"The remaining two challengers, Anthony Catale, a member of the Youngstown school board, and Kevin Salata talk about the problems confronting the ward, but neither put forth a plan that is markedly different from what Drennen is doing."

Wildly inaccurate. Kevin Salata has offered to:

-Reduce the size of the city council in order to reduce the budget.
-Give 10% of his council salary back to the community to make it safer with methods that work.
-Donate an additional $5,000.00 for the good of the fifth ward.

No other candidate has offered to do any of these things, especially the incumbent endorsed by the Vindy.

If you vote for an incumbent, expect the same results that you have now.

Patton’s absence revealing

"Patton has legitimate credentials."

If being part of the political machine that got us where we are is a "credential", than I'll take someone without these "credentials."

Patton’s absence revealing

Re-electing the same politicians will give you the same results.

Salata gives specific plans that give back to the residents of the 5th ward.

I wonder if he will get the Vindy endorsement? Was he one of the 3?

Fenderson adjusts to new teammates at YSU

Maybe Josh met Trafficant while they both were in Rochester? Either way, I'm sure Josh is glad to be outta Rochester where fine dining is Applebies at the Apache Mall.

Sparse turnout suggests light interest in primary

Youngstown's 5th Ward has a candidate with new ideas to improve the safety and security of Fifth Ward residents, including using his own funds to help others. Who else is offering as much, in any race, as he is?

I hope Kevin Salata wins the Democratic Primary. Youngstown needs new ideas and someone who cares.
