Ohioans will vote on SB 5 this fall

Let's see...Police Officer's already pay 10% of their salary to their pensions (by law)--compared to the private sector who only pay 6.7%. They pay close to $100.00 a month for a copay on their insurance--that's just the payroll deduction. Let's not discuss the copay office visits, copay emergency room visits, $25.00 copay on prescriptions, Eyecare that only gives them $100 off on a pair of glasses. Of course that is only if you don't have a separate coupon for a higher savings from the copany itself--like lenscrafter's 50% off deal they advertise. Can't use both. For all this a police Officer puts his life on the line every day for you. Next time you need a Police Officer, don't forget to tell him (and his family) that you don't think his life is worth the EXCESS fringe benefits of the public sector employee.

Are stupid people smart enough to know they are stupid? Most times not. Lower education usually means a higher degree of ego. It compensates for their lack of intelligence. Unfortunately, higher egos give way to complaints of unfair treatment. The truth is often clouded by those rushing to sooth a bruised ego. Hence, the teacher gets suspended for expressing her first ammendment right of free speech--while the parents exists on the toils of person they got suspended.

Defendant shot by Campbell bailiff during struggle

As I read these comments, I am reminded that most of us don't have a clue about what we are talking about. I would first like to address PSYKER99's comment. The law DOES allow deadly force to be used to prevent the escape of a dangerous person. You can shoot them in the back if need be to prevent their escape. This isn't the old west. I will say, however, that shooting a person running from a probation vioalation is extreme. That, however, is not what happened. Close contact was made and their was a gun involved. People escalate situations, Put the two together and things like this happen. Simply putting cuffs on a woman who is fighting to get away is not likely without help from another. Don't believe me, try doing it yourself. While you have to increase your violence toward the woman to gain compliance, you have to keep an eye on the person in the car so they don't jump on your back. When adrenaline starts flowing--people get stronger. It is easy for a bystander to look upon that as extreme and react against the person trying to gain compliance. Furthermore, placing one cuff on her wrist is dangerous because what happens when that arm breaks loose? Now she is swinging a cuff around with ridges that will cut you like a hot knife through butter. Stan says he should have shot out his tires. I attribute that comment to the CSI effect the show has on people. This isn't TV where one shot equals one kill. Most times bullets fly randomly, go through things like tires, bounce off the pavement, and hit some innocent person on the other side of the lot. Every police agency in the country trains its officer's NOT to do just that for those very reasons. Remember to separate reality from TV. As for RIOH330, what civil rights are you referring to? You have the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure, NOT the the right to be free from search and seizure altogether. A judge determines the reasonableness of the search or seizure. If you were convicted in court, then your stop (seizure) was deemed reasonable. Your rights weren't violated, you seem to be bitter because you believe you have more rights than you really have. I understand that adults don't like to be told what to do, but we are a nation founded on the rule of law. Even the little laws apply. Why is it that we justify our breaking of the law because somebody else broke it before, or did something worse? Why is it when we get a ticket for speeding, we blame the cop for having a bad day? Have we become so arrogant a society that we can't stand up for our own transgressions (even the smaller ones) and simply blame ourselves. We are, afterall, only human--and bound to make mistakes. Being called on those mistakes does not make you less a person, or the officer a power-hungry tyrant. It makes a country founded on the principle that all men are created equal--even if only in principle.

Ex-con, ex-congressman Traficant circulating petitions

Why is it that in this valley we always justify what one felon does because somebody else got away with the same thing or something worse? Does it really make the one who didn't get away with it not guilty? If (2) cars run a red light at the same time, and the police can only pull one of them over, should he let them go because the other car got away with it? What if your daughter or son was in the car traveling in the opposite direction and was hit by one of them? Would you want them to be held accountable, or let go because somebody else got away with it some other time? Interesting way of thinking. Maybe we should just close the prisons. For every person there, somebody else got away with it.

Enrollment continues free fall in Youngstown public schools

Wendy Webb will not kick the bad students out because it mean a loss of money that she needs to fund her new buildings. As a result, the good kids leave and the bad ones are left to be baby-sitted. Things won't get better until she leaves.

Youngstown cops suspended for fighting one another

Lets see...3-5 days without pay equates to a monetary loss of $750.00 to $1250.00. How many of you that have been before the court on a first time assault charge ever came even remotely close to getting a fine in that amount? The fact is...THEY were placed on a higher standard and have paid a much hefiter fine for it.
