UPDATE: State bans injection wells within 5 miles of Youngstown site

I'm glad I didn't try to slip that one out in the kitchen ...

Girard reaping the benefits of good management, V&M Star

It sounds to me as if as if some people don't quite understand the art of the tough negotiation or the strategy involved in not being the first to blink .Until they do, I STRONGLY suggest that they refrain from engaging Mayor Melfi in a game of poker. Unless of course the game is played in the middle of summer and you don't mind going home shirtless.

Blitz Insider: Diss the Ursuline Irish? The heat is on

Your first paragraph is unreadable and your heavy use of the parenthesis throughout doesn't make the rest too easy to follow either. This is not to even mention the inane topic. I trust your editor was on break when this piece was submitted?

Aretha Franklin cancels appearances through May

No one, with the possible the exception of Billie Holiday, could sell a song like Ms Franklin. May God's speed be with you in your healing and rest assured that my prayers are.

Valley union calls GM managers ‘sneaky’

Expecting GM management to obey either the word or spirit of a contract is like expecting a leopard to change its spots. It never happened before, it's obviously not happening now, and it will not happen in the future.

A word to the newbies at the complex : This will be how local management will always react when they get heat from Detroit. The" new spirit of cooperation between labor & management." is a one way street. Don't be intimidated by threats and don't be afraid to stand by the tenets of unionism which were defined by the blood, sweat, and tears of the brother that came before you. Otherwise, you're looking at a very long and miserable career under the thumb of people who hold you in contempt. You will never have their respect as an individual, but you will be heard and listened to when you demonstrate solidarity.

Youngstown board to fire AWOL teacher

"The board voted Tuesday to suspend Ahmad A. Amawi without pay effective Wednesday and said it will vote to fire him at its Dec. 8 meeting."

This then means that he has indeed been paid up until now? Wish I had a gig like that. And if so, who has been cashing his pay checks & where? Direct deposit? The man may not exactly be a great communicator but by the same token, one wouldn't exactly have to be Sherlock Holmes to find him either. This story is very interesting but that's mostly due to the questions that were either not asked or not answered.

Warren’s next police captain wants to apologize

I think that the best solution to this embarrassment would be to listen to his explanation (it would HAVE to be a classic), accept his apology, then assign him to full time bicycle inspector. This is not the time (if there ever was one) for another "controversial" Police Chief in the city of Warren. The city and their policemen deserve better leadership than this.

Ex-chief awarded $111K as courtesy

"Courtesy" is opening the door for someone. 111K for someone showing THEM SELF the door leads me to think that there just might be a little more to this very peculiar incident than is being reported here. Yet all said, this really disproves the "fact" that you can't win the lottery without playing I tellya what.
