HERE WE GO AGAIN! Except now we have Buzz-Saw or Buzzed-Out-Of-His-Mind or whatever you want to call THIS idiot. Forum workers have lost their pension plan and were told to "invest in the 401K and Forum will contribute a nice piece to it. If you contribute XX amount, Forum will contribute XX amount and it will end up being better than the pension ever would have been!!" The catch was you had to contribute to a 401K to get anything from Forum. OK, no brainer. You want a retirement, you get a 401K. But now they are taking it away already and it only started a few months ago. This is blatant lies to the union and its membership. They didn't negotiate in good faith. They lied so the union would take other concessions thus allowing Forum to yank this one perk away and getting it all their way. And doesn't he sound politically correct for the papers? And love his smile for the media too. Know what I want to see? I want to see him do our job. Clean up vomit, urine, feces, blood, pus, necrotic tissue, body parts; deal with drug dealers and gang bangers, prostitutes, homeless, the rich and priviledged who think you are their slaves and the poor who think the same; work short-staffed while you supervisor expects you to not only do your job but the job of housekeeping, dietary, maintenance, secretarial, public relations, security/police, etc.; Handle each and every situation that comes your way with grace and dignity and precision because when the chips are down, it's LIFE that matters, not money. Oh yeah, Buzz Buzzard wouldn't last an hour. It's easy to make policy changes on paper, sit in a room in a suit and tie, drink coffee with other top level executives, go out to lunch, laugh and smile and actually SIT DOWN and RELAX while you eat, and say "hey, we don't need all those housekeepers, the nurses can clean beds!" and "Well, why should be give those people 1.75% towards their retirement? That can go in our pocket! Let them swim on their own. They are just the worker bees anyway." and "hey, we con't actually need police to give the hospital security. We;ll hire minimum wage rent-a-cops that no one on earth is intimidated by. Who cares if they spend their time drinking coffee in ER and who cares when their is a problem they send the skinny little girl to handle the 350lb man! We'll save money and if our employees get rolled in the parking lot, well too bad. They should just walk out in groups." Yeah, good ole Buzzkill, he fits in with Forum Health.
Try being the nurses taking care of this person. The hospital management states that you have this person on POLICE HOLD. But the police department doesn't provide a police guard. You post a notice that NO VISITORS ALLOWED WITHOUT CHECKING IN AT NURSES STATION. But these are the types of people that don;t follow any types of rules (DUH) and just go in anyway. And their "homeys" come in and out in huge coats that easily hide drugs and guns. And the NURSES and NURSING STAFF are supposed to play police with them?? That's what management expects. And God forbid if we are told the shooter and/or his gang members are still looking for this shootee. How are we supposed to know who are the good guys and who are the bad guys?? And at discharge time, we have to "fib" to the patient until the police TAKE THEIR GOOD OLD TIME GETTING THERE to take them to jail. And don't think they and their homeys aren't on to us. So for safety purposes, when the nurses sign the discharge papers, we have to sign the papers very messy so they don't know our names. (retaliation for helping the police get them to jail) Plus while they are a patient, their visitors never leave, they are demanding and rude, they scare the hell out of the other patients, and they are abusive to staff. At least in jail, they nurses go with an officer to care for them. In the hospital, we are on our own. And then they bill never gets paid so we get notes on the wall about HOW TO CUT COSTS like skimping on things for the other patients or buying or own supplies that should be supplied by the hospital. And that doesn't touch on the circus that performs when the shootee arrives in the ER and his posse follows his there. The parking lot itself is a hangout of the worst of the worst. The ER staff is subjected to abuse and the other patients are scared to death. When there is shift change, the staff has to walk through the dregs of society to get to the safety of their cars. Don't say these people are "appreciative" of the service we perform and all that BS because we are just potential victims. It happens frequently at the hospital. It may not be reported in the paper, but it happens 1-2 times a week as it is and when this happens, it can increase.
I work at a hospital. This happens all the time. No one knows who shot them. They fell on the knife themselves. They were innocently watching TV and someone broke in for no reason and beat them up. They were walking down the street minding their own business and someone shot them/beat them up. No one knows anything. This isn't the first time and won't be the last. Do they care about not cooperating with police or withholding evidence? No. The police aren't going to help anyway. I wish they could. But their hands are tied because of the courts. AND the rampant crime. It's a big merry-go-round that you can't get off.
WOW! Kudos to GEOMAR and gistol for their thought provoking and mature discussion on this forum. I had given up on this site some time ago to hear anyone talk intelligently, without taking any pot shots or being ignorant. You have restored my faith in this all. You have set the bar for all to follow.
When I was young, I left the area but came back for my parents. My parents are long gone now, but my spouse has their parents still here. I would love to leave because I have seen a better life than here. My child is grown and gone. No worries about schools for me. I'm educated and can find an equal job to what I have if not better. My spouse would fair better too. But that family bond won't let them leave. It's a shame.
Hey Jeff & Scrooge: You two don't have a clue at all about me or about the work I do. I can be I work in a profession that is harder to do physically and mentally than either of you and BOTH of you combined. Lazy? What the heck would you know about it? You don't. Your problem is you ASSUME and you don't like the fact that I didn't jump on the band wagon and slam the minimum wage worker. I enjoy a very comfortable income. I chose to not further my education and advance because I am comfortable where I am. My spouse and I are well-off enough that I can do as I please and so can they. I chose to work hard and "clock out" on time 99% of time time and leave my job at home and have a social life. Those above me work over every day about an hour or so and get called at home. Not for me. You also don't have a clue TRULY whether I am a man or a woman. All your ASSUMPTIONS. How truly intriguing you both are. You are a disgrace.
I am not shocked by these comments here but I cannot believe how high and mighty you sound. It is quite obvious that many of you have never been in the others shoes. I have been on both sides of this and until you have, you have no right to judge. Until you know the individual who is making that particular paycheck, shut up. Things happen to everyone that alters their course of life. Unexpected tragedy occurs. Or maybe they just can't go to school. Maybe they just don't want to. I am in a field where I could further my education and make more money. BUT, I have no desire to go through the BS it would take to do so. Without explaining myself, the things I would have to endure are, TO ME, intolerable and not worth it at this point in my life. Even though people are in positions above me are doing that job worse than I could do it and I sometimes carry them. This is MY choice. Something I live with every day. And in this economy, I could lose my job and cut my income by $5-8/hour in a blink of an eye. So to the minimum wage workers here on the board, I have been where you are, and I understand. Don't feel you need to justify to anyone your life choices. Take care of your family and your business and be happy.
