Traficant critical after tractor accident

He should sue the federal government for kicking him out of congress and taking his staffers who use to do the farm work away.

Letter: Forcing educators to teach to test undermines complete education

Test - A series of questions, problems, or physical responses designed to determine knowledge, intelligence, or ability

So we don't have a standardized test, how do we measure a student's knowledge and ability to apply what they have learned?

From one Marine to another

Wake Up Charles,

Chicago has some of the strictist gun laws in the country, and the highest murder rate. Guess what, the bad guys still manage to find a way to get guns. Mexico has some strict gun laws (ask the marine that was held for a few months there last year), and there is no shortage of firearms in that country. Until you can 100% guarentee that a law on firearms will be destroyed and no one will have them, meaning that ALL firearms, including military, police, etc, are all gone, then I will give up mine. But since you can't, I won't.

It’s not the guns, it’s the idiots

After you ban guns, then what? Sharpton already said they were going to come after knives.

You know who also confiscated firearms? Nazi Germany. Wonder how that turned out.

Saying farewell to an old friend

Health care is a commodity, not a right. My right to free speech, my right to worship my God as I see fit, does not cost you anything. Health care on the other hand does, because their is an expense for the doctors, nurses, facilities, equipment, etc., they cost money, and someone has to pay for it.

Ban fear fuels run on assault weapons across Mahoning Valley

The 2nd amendment has absolutely NOTHING to do with hunting. Those who make the statement, you don't need an "assault" weapon with 30 round mag to hunt (actually those who hunt wild boar do), have no understanding of what the 2nd Amendment is all about. Because we need a well regulated militia to ensure the security of our nation, and our founding father were afraid of a tyrannical government after having fought a war to get away from an oppressive government. A war where the first shots were fired because said government tried to confiscate the colonists arms. The rights of the citizens to bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. We have already been limited in the God given right to freedom and self-preservation do to a ban on fully automatic weapons, unless your have the time, connections and resources to get a type 3 license. And yes, I am against gun registration. Confiscation always starts with registration, and after confiscation comes oppression, I am referencing Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Pol Pott's Cambodia, and many others. Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.

VindyYak, agree with most of what you said, except for the cowards part. The principal lunged at the shooter to try and stop him, teachers put themselves between their students and the punk shooter. What if the principal had been able to meet force with force, death toll could have been much lower.

Not what Founders had in mind

The 2nd amendment is not about shooting sports, it is not about hunting rifles, it is about affording protection to the citizens of this country from a tyranical government and/or foreign invasion, as well as protection from the threat of bodily harm. One could argue that the Second Amendment should be first, as it protects the others. So yes, military style firearms, are and should be protected by the 2nd amendment. The free excercise of that amendment being limited, due to gun free zones (amazing how many of these incidents happen is places where gns are not allowed) potentially caused more lives to be taken than needed. The principal of that school was gunned down trying to stop the punk. I wish she had her own weapon, and rudimentry training and could have at least had a chance. More often than not, once these losers are confronted by a return of force, they end it themselves by taking their own lives. A concealed carry holder potentially saved lives by just being there with a gun at the mall shooting on Oregon. He didn't even have to fire a shot.

"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms."
- James Madison

"To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them."
- George Mason

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."
- George Washington
