New poll shows Ohioans still dissatisfied with Kasich

There are some flaws with this...

1st - the polls are a little misleading, Ohio hast approx. 8 million registered voters so a poll of 1,659 may not be the best gauge of the state.

2nd - What is there not to like? The guy has been in office for just under 7 months. He has delivered on his promises of balancing the budget while not raising taxes. That is pretty impressive considering Strickland had to take Billions in stimulus dollars to “balance” the budget and he still had to raise taxes to do so. Why is it so hard for people to understand that there are only two ways to balance a budget; raise revenue (i.e. taxes) or cut spending (i.e. out of control state pensions).

Hopefully, all of us who support SB5 will be out in full force in 104 days to cast our vote in support of the Governor’s plan to rein in spending and make Ohio great once again!

It isn't easy to be the guy to make these tough decisions; unfortunately they are the ones that need to be made. It is time to open your eyes folks and see that we need a change. Voting Democrat for the last 50 years has done nothing but run the valley into the ground!

Gov.: Youngstown is 'in my blood.'

Stay the course Governor Kasich! Once people realize that your plan works it will be hard to argue with the results. SB5 is just one step in the right direction to fixing the problems that you inherited from Governor Strickland. In just over 2 months you have already done more to help the state than he did in 4 years. It is going to take some time folks, but please give him the benefit of the doubt and realize that he is trying to move us forward and get us out of the misery that we are in. Ohio has over 11 million people and the majority are behind you in this fight!

Wis. gov. says Democrats’ request for meeting is ridiculous

The Government benefits that you receive must cover "Stupid Pills" as part of their prescription plan! How can you make comments so dumb that the country and states aren't broke??? Do you think we just like to borrow money from China?

Wis. gov. says Democrats’ request for meeting is ridiculous

Tigerlily - I assume that your post meant to say what jackasses these 14 Senators are who fled the state instead of doing their jobs, right? The Governor is doing what he was elected to do which includes making some tough decisions. The people of Wisconsin voted and now it is time these 14 senators return and do their jobs!

Hopefully in the very near furture this bill as well as SB5 in Ohio will be a reality and the playing field can begin to be leveled!

Collective thoughts of a taxpayer

What a great article, finally someone who tells it like it is even in this Democratic crazy part of the state! While SB5 doesn’t fix the state overnight it is a great start and Kasich has said this is just the beginning. Hopefully this state can prosper once again under his leadership as he has already done more in 2 months than his predecessor did in 4 years!

Cashmoney – you stated that our taxes won’t go down as a result of this bill and while you are correct it may prevent an increase in our taxes. Very simple economics here; there are two ways to balance a budget #1 increase revenue (i.e. taxes) or cut spending and thank God Kasich realizes that cutting spending is the solution and not raising taxes!

Hopefully by the end of next week SB5 will be signed into law!

Lunch with governor Thursday being moved to new site

You sheeps are morons, look at all of the prosperity that electing democrats for the last 30+ years has been for this area. Nothing significant has happened in the Valley in so many years and you continue to send the same “representation” to Columbus and Washington. SB-5 cannot pass soon enough.

That pension looks like a million bucks; take another 100 grand for good measure

On your next point about unions keeping other non-union facilities wages higher, I tend to agree with you to an extent on this point. What I don’t agree with is when and where it is applicable. For example, I am a CPA and organized unions are not something that is allowed in our profession and I believe that is the correct stance to take. Who would be our competition? I don’t know why any profession that requires a degree would need a union? You state in your first post that you out teach many of your peers, if this is true then wouldn’t you agree that the union system unfairly rewards those who perform at a level below yours while effectively punishing you in that system? If you eliminate the union and base compensation on merit those who thrive in their careers will be rewarded while those who do a lesser job are not? What is wrong with that type of structure? I am not asking to have anything “brought down to my level”, in fact I am quite certain that my earnings are much higher than most public sector employees.

Based on your posts and the transparency that you provide I assume that you are truthful in your comments and that you do have a great passion for teaching. I have no doubt that your job in inner city Youngstown is very difficult and is something that I wouldn’t want to be part of. I do believe that the % of teachers and public employees as a whole who share the work ethic and passion that you speak of is very small. I tend to think far too many are like other posters on this site who can’t comprehend simple facts, use “words” such as “doin” and “ya” and without the protection of a union would not last very long in other industries. People who share the values and characteristics that you describe in your posts will be just fine and in many cases thrive without the restrictions of a union.

Maggie,

My post, while directed at you wasn’t meant to be a personal attack on you. If this is your first year teaching in Ohio then I understand you not realizing the issue with PERS and SS withholdings. Now on to some of your other points….. I am not sure what in my posting gave you the impression that I have complaints with my company or the working conditions in which I work? I happen to be very fortunate in the fact that I for a great company with good pay and excellent benefits. My job affords me and my family many luxuries and we are truly blessed considering how many people in the country and our very region are much less fortunate.

Unfortunately, there are many sacrifices that we must make in order to have what we do. My job often requires me to travel both domestically and internationally meaning there are far too many nights each year where I am telling my sons good night over the phone or via internet video. When I am not traveling I spend many long nights in the office in order to meet the demands of my job. I am not complaining about this because doing has allowed my wife to quit her job and be a full-time mother to which I believe you cannot put a price on.

As for your point about spreading your pay, I think that you missed what I was saying. I fully understand the concept of spreading the pay for budget purposes, what I meant is that a 40 hour per week job has a standard 2,080 hours per year using 10 holidays in the calculation. A teacher on the other hand is approximately 9 months of work when you factor summer break, winter break and spring break (I don’t want to use the words Christmas and Easter break because we know God has no place in our school system! What a joke this country has become!). That equates to 1,560 hours or 75% of the hours that a year round employee works, so if you earn $60,000 for those 1,560 hours or $38.46/hr that means I have to earn $80,000 to be comparable. I know the argument is that you put in more than the 1,560 hours and while I understand I can tell you that I work far more than 2,080 hours per year as well. The next week that I work 40 hours will be my first one!

Maggie - You state that you are in the teachers union in Ohio and that you pay Social Security taxes? I suggest that you take another look at you pay stub or your W-2. You DO NOT pay into social security rather you pay into PERS which those of us in the private sector are not privy to. I am 32 years old and have paid into social security for the last 17+ years and I know full well that I will be lucky to receive a benefit at all let alone anything near what I have put in to the system that will long be in the red by the time I can draw.

The public sector has gotten great pay, benefits and lower taxes than those of us in the private sector. We also don't get three months a year off and if I want to be a jackoff like a large % of those public sector employees I LOSE my job!
I hope that you enjoyed the ride while it lasted! I can't wait until SB 5 Passes!
