Ask your friend that you know "very well" - since YOU brought it up - for fun and amusement, of course, if all the "betchn" is about playing time/position. He was around in 06 when the letter was written. See if he agrees with you.....
Ms. Pig - If you know Coach M as well as you do, how do you think he feels about your posts? You said this is "amusing" and "fun". Do you think it was any of that for those athletes and parents who went through this? Obviously, your connections lie with the board or adminstrators.... hmmm. You never respond to any valid questions posed to you. Sad story - Thanks for the email from the volleyball parent which according to this article there were no complaints.
This blog probably would have ended, but being a good friend you felt the need to keep going!
Answer the question - Do you truly believe every allegation is false and based on playing time/position?
Ms. Pig - You should talk to your children if any of their childhood friends played for her to see what they say. There were many parents who did not complain, but it doesn't mean there was not a wide range of inappropriate coaching behaviors. The discussions here are about subjective things, he said, she said. If a student reports inappropriate touching and the teacher denies it, does it mean it didn't happen??? Every allegation should be considered with some degree of diligence on the administrations level. That's what they are there for. To be objective and listen, not say go away, not true, didn't happen.
It's not about soft parents/students, if you knew the case, you would also know that many students who complained went on to successful college careers in both v-ball and softball. Are they soft? You have no right to comment on the coaching. Start your own post!
Ms. Pig and Walt, I was hoping that people who had not experienced the coaching "style" would refrain from commenting and taking away from the relative importance of this story. I too could write about the excellent experiences my kids had, how they have moved on and achieved great success, etc.
I also grew up in a more disciplined time, but things have changed and certain behaviors are not acceptable by coaches any longer. Whether we like it or not we have to change with the times.... Bullying is a crime, parents want and expect their boosters, their needs to be communication and so on.
I wanted to move on, but the statement the parents are "wrong" was not a professional response on the AD's part. All of them made this up for so many years. Please.... Lastly, presenting to the board that there were no complaints in volleyball is a lie!
Well said Wolverine!!! I wouldn't even be on this blog if the administration, AD or board would have given validity to at least ONE parent complaint in all those years. It never happened. The parents were always wrong, the players were cry babies, and they continued to protect the establishment. I want it to be crystal clear that this story is not based on the facts and history of the parental complaints for so many years.
I don't get the "no good deed..." comment either. Can someone explain the cliche? I don't think people should comment about the topic of her coaching unless they have actually had a kid or a relative play on one of her teams. After years of coaching has any former athletes stepped up to say what a positive learning experience it was or what a great role model she represented?
I feel like there is more to the story, that we will never know. Other area school boards, AD's and SI's go above and beyond to support parents, students and athletes but not at Canfield and not with this coach. I go back many years, before the new AD, and can't believe the Canfield administration has continued to let this escalate to a lawsuit. My response would be:
"no good deed goes unpunished" "...didnt like to hear your COMMUNITY's frank assessments, they need the medicine"
"Still, Gessner and all other board members voted ... to approve Haurin as volleyball coach for the 2011-12 season. Gessner said she voted “yes” because she had never heard any complaints about volleyball." The reason is that Cooper never brought the Volleyball complaints to the Board formally. The board and Zambrini know parents complained about her in volleyball, but as with softball, he ignored them year after year. I know for a fact that parents complained (in person, email and in letters) about her. They can skirt the issue, but it is a lie to say parents did not complain!
Coach1234 - Thanks for ratting out your friend. It appears that the coach who does this training is in violation of the physical fitness program of OHSAA which states that coaches "paid or unpaid" cannot provide training programs to a "select group" of athletes (on school premises no less) - i.e. those who "have money" and the issue of taking money is subject to the Administration/BOE rules. They don't care. It's the taxpayers' money paying this guy. Any coach, head coach, and administration that supports infractions are all subject to the penalties. I'm not uneducated.
We have been given no other choice than to hit the school in the pocket book. It's unfortunate, but they are too blame. Parent complaints have been ignored for too long, in this issue and others - Bullying, Busing, Band, Theater, athletics, and so on. Now, because they want our support, they are sitting up and taking notice that complaints are warranted and need to be taken seriously. Like I said before, getting this levy passed is more important than keeping a coach or Superintendent. WE PAY THEM - Money talks and this is the only way to be heard.
