Stop harassment by police, group demands at Youngstown City Hall

I understand a mother's concern for guns being drawn on a 12-year old child. However, there was a big dog that was not on a leash AND these police officers were investigating crime perpetrated by YOUNG males. They want to go home at the end of the shift. You can't blame them for wanting to protect themselves. They have families too!

If anything, this mother should be thankful that YPD was working hard to keep her neighborhood safe. After all, her boy was running around all by himself and was perfect pickins' for predators of any type. Had this mother been a positive role model, she would have used this as a learning opportunity to show him what could happen when he's running between homes. Instead, she chose to assault the officers in FRONT of her boy!

When will the black community learn that they must hold themselves and each other responsible for the way they are viewed by society? If you look like a thug, act like a thug and hang out on the streets all night long - you're gonna be pegged as a thug!

However, if you parent your children properly and hold them accountable rather than making excuses for them and if you are a positive role model rather than act like a child yourself - I guarantee you these changes will have a positive effect in your home, on the streets, and in your community.

We as a society are sick of the constant excuses for poor behavior. If you want to be treated with respect, you must BEHAVE as a person WORTHY of respect! It's time to hold yourselves responsible individually and as a group. Don't you see that you are only hurting yourselves, your children and your future?

And, while I'm at it, people like Jesse Jackson are hurting your community because they only come around when they smell a story that will bring them some notoriety. If they really cared, they would stress the importance of family, following the law, working hard and getting an education.

Moral of the story: When you choose the behavior, you choose the consequence. Don't your children deserve better?

Crumbling morals take their toll

Unlike the majority of people who posted, I agree with Mr. Cavicchi's views. To the writer who says Jesus does not speak out against homosexuality in the New Testiment - that is true, but only because it was made clear already that this was an abomination in God's eyes. Leviticus 18:22: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind:it is abomination. After reading these posts, it is my belief that most writers thus far are not truly knowledgeable of what is contained in the Bible.

Sin is sin. It doesn't matter if it's a lie, tax evasion, homosexuality, idolatry or adultery, to name a few, they're ALL sin and they're ALL equally sinful. I think people struggle with homosexuality in particular because we are hardwired to protect the continuation of human life. Therefore, homosexuality seems most offensive to us because without procreation we will cease to exist. Homosexuality is a direct contrast to our survival. Though this sin is no worse than any other, it makes sense on a basic level.

As for the writers of the Bible, yes, they were human but INSPIRED by God. This book has survived the test of time. Unfortunately, some people pick and choose bits and pieces to serve their own needs, but the basic teachings of Christ and the word of God are very clear in their meaning.

Either you believe or you don't. The day of truth will come to each and every one of us and there will be no turning back the hands of time. The U.S. is destined for ruination resulting from greed and immorality. At the very least, Christianity teaches love and acceptance. True believers live this truth but that doesn't make them perfect and they DO make mistakes. If we all followed in Jesus' footsteps and lived as He did, don't you think this world would be a much better place for all of us? I do.

Holy cow! Many dared to dance to dance band at Covelli show

commoncitizen:

This gentleman wrote a perfectly nice and uplifting letter - something RARELY seen these days - and you had to follow it up with name calling and negativity!

Here's a good rule of thumb for you to remember: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

There was no need for your nasty comment. It would have better for you not to have commented at all.

4 white women claim racial discrimination at JFS

gingerspice:
I'm offended by your comments. First of all, what does being a Christian have to do with anything in this story? It doesn't mention it, so why would you throw that out there? I can only assume you like to "stir the pot".

Secondly, your comment about the woman staying in a job for $100K that she found intolerable - it doesn't matter how much money you make, you still have bills to pay and you don't know what her personal situation is like at home or financially. If anything, she was behaving professionally and responsibly by not quitting one job before finding another!! If only more people would behave that way - despite intolerable work conditions - the free handouts might subside. This is what RESPONSIBLE and PROFESSIONAL people do!

Your comments were inflammatory and unnecessary. And by the way, your comment regarding 'catty women' was not only offensive, but SEXIST! And that's just as bad as being racist!

Does Cal enjoy distorting Bible?

There are several scriptures that declares homosexuality as an abomination against God.

Lev 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural,

Rom 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct.

The Apostle Paul, writing by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares that homosexuality "shall not inherit the kingdom of God" (I Corinthians 6:9; 10). Now Paul DOES NOT SINGLE OUT THE HOMOSEXUAL as a special offender. He includes fornicators, idolators, adulterers, thieves, covetous persons, drunkards, revilers and extortioners. And then he adds the comment that some of the Christians at Corinth had been delivered from these very practices: "And such were some of you: But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God" (I Corinthians 6:11). All of the sins mentioned in this passage are condemned by God, but just as there was hope in Christ for the Corinthians, so is there hope for all of us.

Homosexuality is an illicit lust forbidden by God. He said to His people Israel, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination" (Leviticus 18:22). "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them" (Leviticus 20:13). In these passages homosexuality is condemned as a prime example of sin, a sexual perversion. The Christian can neither alter God's viewpoint nor depart from it.

Autopsy: Evidence of marijuana in Martin’s blood

bfpeer,

Said: Even in the neighbors horrifying 911 tapes you can hear Martin screaming help for at least 10+ seconds.

You need to get your facts straight. Even Travon's own father denied those screams for help being those of his son's BUT Mr. Zimmerman's father definitely identified them as his son's.

Why do all of the photos of Travon show him as a small child? It's manipulative to show him as a young innocent, child when, in fact, the real Travon photos are shown on Facebook! Of course seeing a picture of a happy little boy will pull at our heartstrings but that isn't the person Mr. Zimmerman met that night.

No one knows what happened but Travon and Mr. Zimmerman. Hopefully, the truth will come out and we can put this mess to rest.

We need to stop the media from revealing information prior to a verdict being rendered. I'm convinced the media has become a deterrent to the pursuit of justice.

Mom gets 9 years in Ohio teen’s malnutrition death

This woman is the worst of the worst! Will someone please explain to me why she got only 9 years for the death of this poor child? This little girl had no way of protecting herself from the horrific treatment she received at her mother's hands. To leave her in one position so long that she got bed sores is torture, pure and simple. And to allow a 14 year old child to be starved down to 28 pounds is beyond my comprehension! Starvation is very painful. Her health condition alone was heartbreaking. What is happening to our judicial system that would allow this to happen and the perpetrator be given only 9 years for the crime? I just don't understand.

Woman: Police wouldn’t let me dress

Hey Foxygo,

When you put YOUR LIFE on the line to catch criminals of violent crimes THEN - AND ONLY THEN - will you have a right to talk about treating people with respect!! Would you want to lose a loved one because some chick wanted to get her clothes from her bedroom and managed to grab a gun and shoot them where they stand? I DIDN'T THINK SO. Shame on you for calling these people pigs! I'll bet you wouldn't call them pigs if YOU NEEDED THEIR HELP, WOULD YA?

Ohio State Pen inmates launch hunger strike

These folks are supposed to be paying for a crime they chose to commit. They get 3 hots and a cot and that's the extent of what they DESERVE. They made a choice (forfeiting their freedom) and broke the law. We treat criminals better than we treat our country's veterans. Am I the only person who thinks that is crazy?

As for pornography, extra play time and additional benefits for good behavior - get rid of it! They should have thought about good behavior long before being sentenced to jail. As the mark-up on commissary items, take an average of what we pay on the outside and apply it to them. I think that is more than fair.

I believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect, but these two things must be earned, not given without merit. When sentenced for a crime, all rights should stop immediately until their time has been paid in full. They are wards of the state. In other words, they are living on our dime, and personally, I'm not a fan of supporting crime.

Give them dignity and respect as long as they behave accordingly, 3 meals a day, a bed and adequate living conditions. Beyond that, they have no rights - and they would do well to remember that.
