Don't knock the guys out at the Ohio State Penitentiary. They're doing a tough job, and they're all paying city income tax while they do it. Kasich ought to think twice before he privatizes that facility.
You know, it's the strangest thing. The people talking about Macejko running against Gains now sound just like the people who were cheering for Marty Yavorcik two years ago. As a fan of Jay Macejko's, I hope he has more sense than to be used by that crew.
The casual racism of these comments just proves how ignorant the commenters are -- but refusal to come forward is a serious problem for the police. Black or white, the cops need information to work with. The same people who are making jokes about the police here are quick to jump on any YPD officer who steps one inch "out of line" as an aggressive law enforcement officer. YPD deserves more credit than they ever get on this website.
I am a young person who moved back to Youngstown in recent years. I love the fact that we have a locally owned newspaper and I love the fact that we are still an independent media market. I have never commented on this website before, and I may never do so again. This post, and the comments attached to it, are not legitimate journalism. David Betras may be an imperfect man, but neither this post nor its comments are worthy of publication. There is such a thing as legitimate news coverage, and there is such a thing as throwing garbage at a wall to see what sticks. This entire article is the latter, and while I am often a fan of Bertram D'Souza, today he should be ashamed.

Mayor: Time to end dysfunction of Mahoning's criminal justice system
So the mayor wants to fix the dysfunctional criminal justice system. How long has he been mayor? And what has he done about crime . . . ever?

Why is Gains taking a pass?
