Before the City does anything, they should hire some out-of-state consultants and spend $200,000 to save $100,000. Why change the way City Hall does business. Maybe the Mayor has some relatives who are consultants. Why not convert the Covelli Center into a multi-use government center and move City Hall and the jail there. That would keep the judges happy and save a whole lot of money on maintenance of the building. Plus, the performance area could still be used in the evening for concerts etc. And lastly, a few restaurants may want to move nearby as they would have customers from City hall during the day and from the entertainment at night.
Bozanich has been a culprit for years. I have been reading the Vindy articles about the annual state audits for quite a few years, and the same issues keep appearing. Basic accounting guidelines require proper internal control. Does anyone in City Hall know what this means? I think some of the problems were basic accounting issues that Bozanich can't or won't get a handle on, such as punching in for shifts, proper accounting of vacation time, keeping track of overtime, and on and on. This man should have been replaced years ago. HELL- the City can hire Tablack. He's held every other finance job in this county and city. Keep George on the payroll just like Sammarone.
All they need to do is set a reasonable restricted area around the animals and call it a day. Cleveland has livestock in the Ohio City area which is practically downtown. I'm with the Boston Market cows, "Eat Mor Chiken".
Let's have these folks teach the YPD some tactical skills. The bartender would make a good replacement for Chief Foley. How come every new police chief vows to lower crime in this city, yet it seems to rise with each new appointment? If Jimmy Hughes could read this article even he would get a chuckle.
Dear Busyman: I agree that Judge Douglas was an educated man, and had experience, and was a fair judge, however if you check his bio you will see that he obtained his law degree later in life and had never been a practicing attorney before becoming judge. I do not believe his experience was in the field of law. REALLY- why did he get the appointment? How often does a non-practicing attorney go directly to the bench skipping all the practical experience that all the other judges obtained as practicing attorneys?
In the comments about downtown "developers", do not forget Anthony Saadey. Didn't he get some amount in excess of $1M to create Anthonys-on-the River? Who knows how much he got through Claire Maluso and Traficant to build Silverado Studios to create a job for Mary Jo Maluso. Do you think he has ever made a payment to the City? For a while he also had the B & O Station leased, but never made the lease payments, bought insurance or made the required repairs. Thanks JimBo, Ungaro and McKelvey for the handouts.
My favorite restaurant was the late "Moe and Izzy's" which closed almost ten years ago. The food was great, the atmosphere fine and it was the first smoke free restaurant in the CBD. It failed because the average worker downtown did not want to spend a whopping $5 for a real sandwich. There were also the suburban downtown workers who were afraid to walk 2 or 3 blocks to the restaurant because of the downtown element. Give me a break. Who can be afraid of Gregory, King of the Pimps? Now, the Old Precinct has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor. Who's next?
I have no problem with people redeveloping any part of town, provided they have a business plan and funds to complete the project. FUNDS is where the Shabazzes leave me suspicious. It seems that they are making some of their money these days selling foreclosed properties that they bought from the foreclosed owners for pennies on the dollar and then sold to unsuspecting buyers without disclosing the fact that the property has a judgment lien hanging over it. If you plan to do any business with the Shabazz family PURCHASE TITLE INSURANCE. Just ask the lady planning to open a hot dog restaurant on Powersway. The Shabazz's did not just move here; they returned after a brief stay in Decatur Georgia. Whatever they are up to, make sure you know who you are dealing with.
No they are not mobsters, but not legitimate business owners. You must know them intimately to say they are being slandered. Check the auditor's website under Fresh Start Homes and see how many of the properties actually are more than vacant lots. Also note the number of different addresses that are listed and most importantly, the LLC does not exist as far as the Secretary of State is concerned. How many so-called companies do the Shabazzes own and why wasn't their business in Atlanta registered with the Georgia Secretary of State? PS try using spell check, Ms. Shabazz.

That's ironic. City Council already has 7 turkeys.
