It seems like faulty thinking to begin a new Lutheran denomination, spending large sums of time and dollars in legal red tape in starting another Lutheran Church. How many divisions in Lutheranism do we need? Being Lutheran used to mean followers of the Lutheran Confessions. That is what defines us. It establishes the doctrines we accept as biblical. Do we just keep unraveling and spending ever greater sums of energy on structures instead of on ministry. We have an open and liberal model in the ELCA, a moderating model in the LCMS and a very conservative model in WELS, not to mention smaller hybrids to pick from, merge into and help shape in godly directions. The old divisions were around ethnic and linguistic roots for the most part. That had to do with some practicalities of the time. Aren't we beyond that? Do we always have to reinvent the wheel? Do we need new officers and boards and elections and... ? Just thinking my own thoughts publicly.
