Animal Advocates in the State of Ohio have been fighting for felony Animal Cruelty Laws for DECADES; our Ohio Representatives continue to fail our companion pets in this State ... and our Judges and Prosecutors continue to make a mockery of crimes against animals.
Steve Croley KILLED 8 dogs, starved them to death. The remaining dogs were emaciated and near death. After arriving LATE to court, in a plea deal Steve Croley was sentenced to only 120 days (less for 13 days served). He was ordered to pay an insulting amount in restitution (that probably didn't cover the cost to care for ONE of the surviving dogs that he starved) and ordered not have ANY animals for the duration of his probation ... only 3 years. Now he blames his spouse that he is in possession of 3 dogs and 2 cats?
Steve Croley continues to thumb his nose at Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr, Prosecutor Jay Macejko, and Ohio State Laws. I only hope this won't be a replay of January 23, 2009 and that justice will finally be served. ..

Get those 3 dogs away from him NOW ~ and what needs to be investigated IMO is who knew/enabled him to violate his probation. They, too, should be charged with something. Hopefully Mahoning County Judge & Prosecutor will do more than give Croley a slap on the wrist this time. We're watching and counting on them to do the right thing (since they didn't the first go around).
@RobertAlphonso ... this "moron" would be happy to provide a long list of Animal Welfare bills that have gone NOWHERE from ALL elected representatives (both Democrat & Republican majorities) dating back to 1996. You'd come across less ignorant if you did your homework before referring to people as dumb' & moronic.
It's people like you that are hurting the cause and NOT the animal advocates.
In 2008 Steve Croley of Youngstown Ohio STARVED 12 DOGS (7 to DEATH) and walked away with a slap on the wrist. As a result, NITRO's Law was born. Nearly 3 years after the murder of Nitro, and many years advocating for tougher Animal Cruelty laws, they’ll go on “holiday” until September and it hasn’t even made it out of the Criminal Justice Committee! In last Wednesday's hearing re: HB108 Rep Young (R-63) asked if this has ever occurred in the State of OH (keep in mind he was present when Nitro’s family testified at the last hearing).
How many more animals will die at the hands of abusers? How many more will be neglected, starved, beaten, tortured, mutilated before our legislatures do ANYTHING about it? This isn’t about “big government”, nor is it about crimes against people as some ‘canned’ responses would have you think (although studies do show that it is almost impossible for one to be cruel to animals and kind to humans).
As I continue to try to wrap my mind around why our elected officials don’t want to strengthen Animal Cruelty Laws in Ohio, I have 2 hypotheses: 1) They are animal abusers themselves [sic] 2) Animals don’t vote.
We DO (vote) however, and the time is now! On behalf of our Ohio animals, send your messages loud and clear to the 129th General Assembly.
In the state of Ohio you can starve, beat, torture, mutilate animals and walk away with a slap on the wrist (if that) but if you take Perch illegally from Lake Erie, you can face 4-15 years behind bars and $43,000 in fines. Am I the only one appalled by this?
FELONY Animal Cruelty ... that is Nitro's Law (Ohio HB108). Contact your state legislatures and ask they support and pass this bill. Contact your local officials & judiciary and ask they ENFORCE Animal Cruelty laws. It's time that Ohio hold perpetrators accountable for abusing animals.
Steve Croley found not guilty of his probation for having dogs
INFURIATED!!!
NO JUSTICE for dogs in Ohio.
At some point our Judiciary will stop making a mockery of animal cruelty - unfortunately it won't begin with Judge Douglas.
