AUSTINTOWN'S TOP DOG

Best wishes to the new Rookie in the APD! Let's make sure he is not left in a hot vehicle out of visual with his partner so he does not suffer and die. You never know when the mechanics of a car's airconditioning unit will fail, and no airconditioning in hot weather with windows up or up most the way spells death in a shorter time then most people think. This advice goes to those civilians as well.

Police probe weekend robberies

That is some scary stuff. I remember someone telling me back around Halloween time, they seen someone who went to the same Walgreens pharmacy and had a hoodie and a mask on with hands in pocket. That person who seen this was not waiting around to see if anything happened.

Boardman man avoids jail in attempted strangling

Really? Parkinson's can cause unknown violent behavior, think I need to research that one. Glad he is on indefinite house arrest but who is going to supervise him? Thank God the victims life was not taken!

Valley animal groups unite?

Personaly, CassAnn you must be very ignorant and biass to state that "AC never worried about sick animals-they just KILLED them." I personaly KNOW that many animals, including 'Cats' were medicated and nursed back to health. Many dogs with Parvo were given treatment for weeks and nursed back to health. Most being adopted to good homes. Animal Charity of Ohio has been around for over 40 years rescuing animals in neglected situations and stopping their suffering. Unfortunatly, ACO does not have a large facility to properly house a large amount of animals for quarentee then adoptions. Would anyone like to donate such a facility? How about would some of the other organizations who have a good tract record be interested in taking the overflow of neglected Animals from ACO and keep them untill they can adopt them out so ACO can continue to protect the neglected and abused? Stay focused on the Animals everyone, not certain individuals, please.

Cash-strapped Animal Charity ends assistance to calls of abuse, neglect

I believe Animal Charity's mission statements says something like to bring about a time and place when our services are no longer needed. Meaning when the suffering and neglect of animals has stopped, which it has not. Who is this Gary Pilcher? What happend to the Co-founder of Animal Charity Mr. Perc Kelty former President of the Board of Animal Charity? Animal Charity started as a Humane Society in the 60's going out and rescuing abused and neglected animals. The Spay Neuter Vaccination clinic was started part time in 1983 or 1984 to compliment the Humane Society by reducing the amount of unwanted puppies and kittens by providing low cost spay neuter. I remember when it cost $16.00 to neuter a male cat. Any money made by the Veterinary clinic went back into providing extra money to keep the Humane work active. You know I hate to see people loose their jobs, but THE BOARD made the wrong move in discontinuing the Humane Department! JEAN ALWAYS SAID THE ANIMALS COME 1st, and they should have layed other employees off and made pay cuts, etc before making this decision. I agree it was not perfect and perhaps some of the decissions staff/managment made were bad, but they should have never put people before animals. If there was a problem with an employee performing the job that should have been addressed and replace that employee not throw the baby out with the dirty bath water. Ohio still has that law that states that "Any person may protect" so look it up. If an animal is seen out that is in need of protection the good samaritan can remove the animal, but they must leave notice of where the animal is. I suppose the police can be called in extreme case's and charges filed.

Suit over jail ordeal alleges civil-rights violations, wrongful death

It is sad this this young man lost his life. It seems to me that health status and history along with medication and treatment procedures should be implemented and followed. This may have made a calmer environment for all and not ended so tragic. My sympathies to the family.

Boy listed as critical after being hit with bat

My heart goes out to the family of this child. I pray for his health. You have to wonder if this would have happen had there not been a "Crowd" that probably edged this boy on. To me if your a party to a crime you are guilty as well and all those who stood by should be prosecuted. Hopefully in the future the police will be called before another kid gets seriously hurt.

Cat shelter reopening; charges still possible

Think the focus has to be on making changes that benefit the welfare of the animals. I believe upper respiratory infections will "Pass through the Air", so without good ventilation, even in separate cages you may have a hard time clearing up any uri. Seems to me that CLS recognized this problem and addressed it with the new building to meet these needs, however, it is not a good idea to allow sick cats free roam with other sick cats that may be in a different stage of recovery. Another issue is, if cats are really sick and cant smell they are likely to not eat or drink, which in turn will casue dehydration and death. Were these cats that supposedly very sick dehyrdrated? And if so were they given fluids by sub Q or IV and supplemental nutrition by CLS or Animal Charity? I understand there is a vaccination for Cat Bordetella, that is routine in some Shelters down south, and this may help prevent any future problems. No shelter likes to kill animals. Unfortunately there are more homeless animals than there are rooms for them in a no kill shelter. If you call a no kill shelter, with an animal for them to take, most will tell you they are not taking any now, or if your lucky they will put you on a waiting list... what happens if you can not provide for this animal while you wait to get it into this great NO Kill shelter? Who is the bad guy here? I am not saying Animal Charity is right in what they did, and I have no personal experience with Cat Lady Society. But it seems to me they have the same common goals, only difference is one will not turn away a homeless animal and will euthanize a pet... this option more humane than ignoring the pet to starve or get hit by a car. Hopefully, Animal Charity will be able to work with CLS and give them the rest of their cats back. I believe CLS is better equipted in their new building then Animal Charitys building.
