thank you. glad to hear someone in the area is in touch with understanding the deleterious effects of big box and auto dependent development. you should run for 'environmental' trustee if you live in austintown. i would, but dont live in the area anymore...but maybe again soon!
ricnsherri. real nice, youve opened the door a little wider for 300 like comments. maybe try a response with a bit more tact and well thought argument against rail. I am a proponent of it. plain and simple. the largest hurdle of all in a state like ohio that is 5 th in total highway miles, is going to be ridership. Ohio is a sprawl state. sprawl is no longer associated only with the regions around cities. this leads to density issues and ability for the rail to service the population that is best served by the car...which we must reduce! However, rail and efficient mass transportation is one of many layers in combating sprawl, oil dependency, air pollution, etc and the fears of ma transit accidents should be compared to the risks associated with automobile use and high numbers of accidents.
Plain and simple, the "campus idea for elementary schools is wrong! Schools at all levels must be an integral part of a neighborhood! Obviously, the buildings need to be updated, but then they and township residents should not settle for buildings that are not designed with sustainable practices and green building initiatives. This includes more than just the building itself, but how students get to and from the school. Many successful districts around the country realize the ample benefits of reducing busing, yet we are building a "campus" that is inaccessible to walkers and people who may want to bike. Lets stop thinking about short term and realize long term fuel prices will make busing students unaffordable for the district. Why do you think busing is always the first cut when a levy doesn't pass? Maybe because it has a high overhead and high operating costs. SCHOOLS ARE PART OF A NEIGHBORHOOD and must be incorporated into them in many aspects
um, what do you think they do background checks for? look at the dates when everyone filed complaints, lowellville would not have known about the milton case because no report was filed until 1 year after.
also, it seems all of the story is not being told, though i do agree the guy needs to be out of the uniform considering the allegations. if he's found guilty, which it certainly seems there is misconduct throughout this story, then the facts are clear.
R Federer...do the townships really see much revenue? are you kidding me? Please people, do your research on big box stores. What is potentially unfortunate about a water district is the increase potential for sprawl! Austintown boardman and canfield do not need more homes further and further from the center...just exactly what IS hte center of Austintown and Boardman? The stormwater provision is excellen, and if properly done, can help to protect valuable land from being developed.
the "campus" is a bad idea for many reasons... this is just one...schools should be an integral part of the neighborhood, and A-town is getting further from that...leave the "campuses" for college! My thinking is more of the bigger picture. The pattern of developement that Austintown has experienced does not promote "neighborhood schools" or neighborhood districts. This creates the current scenario where everyone is bused or drives to the campus therefore increasing costs indirectly to education, but directly to taxpayeres for infrastrucure and transportation. Then the BOE will be sitting on vacant land created by demolition that they cant sell. Or better yet, they will build another walmart or lowes, which similarly increases infrastructure costs. taxes may be bad now, but what happens when GM goes and gas is back to $4 a gallon and bussing is dropped. Now the taxpayer is facing another burden. Yes Heuer, now is hte time for low bidders, but maybe its tme for some creativity and innovative thinking outisde the Austintown box!
