I really hope that was not really Dave Betras in that last post. If it was, I really am amazed and offended at this. I am a Democrat for almost all cases and have often donated money to the party and its candidates. Then our so called leader tells someone that is displeased with the state of the area to get out if he is not satisfied! Then you go on to agree with every point he makes. That is a real unique attitude you have there, your true calling may be politics. I think we can all agree that the area is in a bad way and is not making very many major advancements to change this. Being "positive" about these things that we are dissatisfied with will not fix a single thing. Not really proud to see you a a leader if that is the rhetoric that you see as appropriate in a public forum. For the record I am voting yes on issue 3, just because we can only see a benefit from it with non of the risk to our area directly. In either case, Mr Betras I don't wish for you to move because you don't agree with me. If that was not the actual Mr. Betras, my apologies
What is the negative to voting yes. So what its not in our area, what is it costing us? If anything it can only be positive. Tax money will go to the state, some people will get jobs (great or just enough to get by) better than nothing, any problems that come with the casinos we don't have to deal with, if it fails it won't be another eye sore in our back yard, some of the building materials will be locally sourced (in Ohio), and the only thing it will cost you is to say its OK if someone else gets something you don't have....... Grow up and give it a chance. I would like to see one reason that its bad for Youngstown that is not grounded in jealousy or greed.
Yes Girard, play hard ball. Don't let the fact that that entire stretch of 422 has become abandoned. Stick to your guns it has only been 20 years since those mills were operating at capacity, but you should try to get everything that land is worth who cares if it takes another 20 years. With leadership like this what company in the world wouldn't want to locate in the valley. "If it happens, the two cities are to split a 2.75 percent income tax imposed on those working there as well as a profit tax of the same percentage from the company. Each city would get about $1 million annually" at least read what your commenting on. last time I checked something is more than nothing.
As I travel around this country for work I always say I am from McDonald Ohio, and if asked where that is I just say North East Ohio. Why do I do this? More times than not if I said Youngstown I would be answering questions about "Jimbo", murder rates, Mafia, or some other Youngstown/ Warren black eye. I don't mean just people in NE Ohio or PA, I have had these question from people as far away as LA. So to all of you that love him and speak of all these great things he has done, remember I have never had one conversation about the 711 connector, or the convocation center but many about the felon congressman that got them added to the bottom line of some bill that he knew would pass either way. If he dose somehow get reelected I know I will be abandoning this area and all hope of it ever being able to recover and I really dont think I will be alone.
This is hilarious, I guess that slap on the wrist just stung too bad. So what is his argument as a police officer I dont believe stealing from the government is wrong and there for I should not have been punished at all. This is exactly why people give law enforcement no respect what so ever, criminal cops giving them all a bad name. Its pretty sad that a fire-able offense at McDonalds shouldn't even get a second look at WPD.
I remember when I was growing up I was taught that you showed officers respect at all times. Not because of the uniform they wear but for the job that they do. Lets face it, I know I would not do that job for the risk vs reward that is involved. I will admit I have met some bastard cops in my years but I have always showed them respect, and between parties at my house being broken up back in college and MANY speeding tickets not one of those situations has ever got out of hand. So the next time you feel like an officer deserves to be treated like crap by you, remember they are human too and out there risking everything to try and make your world a little better. Better yet, sign up for the academy and try to do their job better than they do!
Wow, isn't nice to know the level that these officers are dedicated to serving the community. I think to myself what kind of officers are they when they do actually stay in the city to do their job. When they cant even be bothered to stay in the city while they are being paid to protect it. As if it wasn't hard enough in court for prosecutors to fight off the defense attys tactics, now they have to deal with arresting officers being on record as being thieves and lairs.
Wow I guess I had way too much faith in the people of this area. If the government has to pass a law to make you idiots turn your headlights on in the rain, maybe this town is full of idiots that just deserve to play bumper cars on 680 every time it rains. Whats next will they have to pass a law to make sure the simpletons of the this area drive with out blind folds or would that be "big government" infringing on your right to prove natural selection correct. Sometimes I hate to admit that I am from here......
I cant believe that in all of these posts that no one is talking about the fact that all Walmarts are parasites on the region the are in. Yes Walmart will help this little stretch of Belmont Ave, but at what cost to local stores. As Walmart opens more people will shop there and the local shops will drop one by one, and instead of your money going to local owner that lives and buys local it will go out of town. On top of that next to nothing they will be offering will be coming from local suppliers, once again sending our money to other places. I know that there are not many places looking to open up in the Youngstown area right now but this is not going to save any part of our economy.
Every man is judged by his actions in this world. This particular man is not being judged without context here. It has been determined by a jury of his peers that there is enough evidence to have him face trial for murder, while awaiting his day in court he choose to break the law (and he did this multiple times). I ask my self what he was risking his freedom for all of these times he unpluged. Innocent until proven guilty is one of the things that makes this country great, but so is common sense.
