These soulless nothings killed puppies? Defenseless puppies? Really? I'd watch out for whomever did this. They killed puppies, next target might be people.
Amazing that the same thing happened in Arkansas with hundreds of earthquakes that didn't start until the "f*ing fracking" started on fault lines that were suppose to be ancient! Why can't we be told the truth about what is happening? Mother Earth is sending us a message! Why aren't we listening?
It is sad we don't have serious journalist who don't live up to their duty to report the truth and inform the public in this area. Stop the fluff pieces and report the truth!
It's unfortunate that more people weren't there to voice their opinions about the violence that plagues our city. Also, I never heard anything about a meeting on violence. Maybe if there were more advertisement of such a meeting more people probably would have attended.
The city of Youngstown and the people who are our so called leaders are an embarrassment! One of the lines that struck me in this article was about the West Side becoming an activity for drugs and violence. Yes the west side was always the better side of town; however, there were great areas throughout this whole city that the police department, city council, and the executive of this city let go to hell. Last night I went to the city council meeting expecting to say a few comments about the crack den store Ally's but I missed the public comments section. I was appalled that the meeting started at 5:30 and was over around 6 pm. The mayor barely addressed the recent violence, and the council members just passed resolution after resolution without any dissent.
I'm tired of the culture of corruption, the do-nothing city, and the ignorant people who just shut their doors and say there isn't anything to be done.
As a black man I'm embarrassed for my community. Its a damn shame that parents aren't holding their children accountable for anything. If I acted like a hooligan my parents would have beat me black and blue!
WTF! WTF! WTF! I live in this neighborhood. My family has been living in this neighborhood for the past 20 years. My grandparents brought their home from the Stoops family. My mother lived across the street from the Mancini's. There is so much history in this neighborhood and now it is crumbling to pieces. Please don't rant about people not taking pride in where they live. My grandparents are old just like a lot of the people that live here. It's sad they can't sell their home because this city has turned into a hellhole. They shouldn't have to sell something that they invested a lot of time and effort into. WTF again. City government has let this city turn to S&HT. Neighborhoods that were once stable are turning into ghettos beyond ghettos. I fear something far worse is going to happen.
What is the point of even trying to get air service here? Seriously, it is so much easier to fly out of Cle, Pit, and Akron. They should sell the name and let some corporate juggernaut slap it's name of the building. I guess I'd vote for North East Ohio Regional Airport. Maybe Pennsylvania's name should be incorporated.
I guess I'm just out there with this one. The county should have built a brand new building in the first place downtown. I actually had to go to the ''county building", for a birth certificate. I was shocked at all the "money", spent there and the dilapidated conditions in Oakhill. After all the money spent on this place acquiring it & renovations why does it still look like S#i^?. Vindy...Do a common sense story about the state of this place....and I'd be proud to help you with it.
I am @ a loss for words with the comments made about this story. A young person lost his/her life today. Unfortunately, now I am on the side of many of you who post about the lawlessness that prevails on the south side of the city. I don't agree with the blanket statements made about the people who reside on the south side, but I do agree with the fact that the "thug," culture is prevalent and needs to be addressed. The tune coming out of downtown about the city getting better is just crap. I'm @ a loss for what solutions can be made. After that Christian woman was brutally murdered last year I really thought that would be the last straw. However; it is business as usual. I haven't lived in this city in 7 years, and I am quite shocked that this city has rotted to the point of no return. I hate to be ignorant but I can't wait to take my college education, my taxes, and my happiness back out of this miserable place.
1st. I commend these men for stepping up to say anything about the on going problems plaguing the city and region of Youngstown. It takes a lot of courage to speak up and add your voice to an issue that so many people simply refuse to address. Violence in Youngstown has been a problem since I was a child. Over the years it has gotten worse, and simply barbaric! I fear for my mother, my grandparents, and all my extended family there. I chose to leave the city over 6 years ago because there wasn't many opportunities to establish a life for me. That's the story of so many in my generation.
2nd this article is well executed by having so many young men in the "entertainment," business. Every black male in the city aren't politicians, or rappers. There are engineers that live there, nurses, some who are just telemarketers who could have added to this debate.
3rd I agree with some of the points in this article. The black family structure is dysfunctional. Children having children...breeding a generation of people with no direction. Youngstown could actually be a mini-version of the problems facing America. Poverty stricken, uneducated population is whats going to kill this country. Another point that wasn't made in this article is that maybe these men should stop adding to the thug culture and tell youth to stop bullying and treating others with so much contempt for being themselves. When I was growing up, my parent didn't allow me to be around the "thug" culture, and for that I had family members call me sissies and punks for not wanting to gang bang. It would be nice if people in the black community encouraged children to seek out their dreams and not condemn them if they want to be a police officer, journalist, or anything that would contribute to society.
Hopefully, this series continues and more voices are heard.
This story is so sad! I really can't believe some of the comments I read on here. People get a grip. Put a monkey cage around the city and it's mother nature taking course? Are you freaking serious! These are people lives we are talking about. When have the people of Youngstown become so callous that they refer to people as animals. I'm sure these people were black, as I am a black man, however they are still people. Instead of sitting behind your computer and ranting and raving about the crime taking place why don't any of you stand up and fight back? One of the things that made me leave Youngstown is the lack of passion in the people there in Y-town and start making changes for all your lives. It's 2010, not 1910, stop living in the past and start looking around you. Get your S*it together and work it out.
