My comment was directed toward those like Seminole that make comments like "they will not spend this on police." So I do believe my comment was accurate when you see where I am coming from.
General Fund monies are able to be spent on whatever the township officials deem necessary and are considered for proper public purpose. I am not arguing against you that they are supplementing these special revenue fund levies with General Fund monies. All I am saying is that we as taxpayers need to stop and take a look at the scenario with all the facts and then hold our officials accountable. If we just sit back and complain, how do things get better?
Ok, so let's run with the theory that they all are "corrupt." All the blame falls on the governmental officials right? No resident is to blame? Come on!!! Remember, we vote these people into office. If we feel they are misspending our tax dollars...we should just sit back and complain, right???? That solves a lot!!!! As my grandmother said: when you point at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at you!
Come on people. Times are tough and taxes keep rising, I get that...but get your facts straight. In Governmental Accounting, the Township is required by the Ohio Revised Code to place monies generated by this "Special Levy" into the Township's Police District Fund. Those monies can only be spent for the items listed on the ballot wording the residents voted on. According to the Township's most recent audit report, the monies in the Police District Fund can only be used to "pay for police protection for the Township.". No where in this audit has the Township been issued a citation for using these revenues for anything other than Police expenses. If you know otherwise and can prove it, I suggest you call the Auditor of State's Office and request to speak to someone in their Special Invesigative Unit. It just seems like people are quick to come up with conspiracy theories when they really don't fully understand how governmental accounting works. And before you say it...I know, governments are all corrupt...
To Officer Chance Jr.'s wife: I am not sure if you will read this after all the horrible comments on the blogs, but just in case you do...I am a wife of a LE Officer just like you. I understand everything you stated above, especially the part about your husband coming home to you and your chlildren. It is something that every spouse of a LE Officer has to deal with and it stinks to no end. My only suggestion to you would be to turn off the scanner and trust that your husband has been trained appropriately and that he will do anything in his power to make it home to you. Recently I found out that approximately 7 years ago, my husband almost did not make it home to me and our unborn child. It was a shock to my system. The Dash Cam caught this altercation and those going through a police academy will watch it during training on traffic stops...and the message the instructors give is "Never Give Up." I am sure your husband is feeling that same thing my husband did on that midnight shift 7 years ago. I am sorry to hear of this incident and i wish him a full recovery and you the strength to help him through the menttal issues he may have for many years to come. Keep your head up and know that you have other LE wives to lean on when things get tough.
To those asking why the Highway Patrol is not covering the streets of Youngstown: Many times, City Police Departments ask for the Highway Patrol to stay out of their jurisdiction, as in a neighboring city not far from my home. Then there are some cities (like mine) that ask for the Highway Patrol to assist with issues in their city. No I am not professing to know what YPD has asked for, but i know that this was an incident within the City and if they needed assistance and a Highway Patrol Officer was free, they would have been there as fast as possible. But honestly, why bring up something that does not pertain to the issue at hand?
To those who hate LE and think that they are all corrupt: I am not arguing that there are corrupt officers, but there are corrupt individuals in each profession. Take a look around where you work and I am sure you will find at least one shady character that does not do things on the straight and narrow.
To the individual that has stated where this young man attended High School: Just because he graduated from a school like Lowellville, does not mean a thing. Was he there due to Open Enrollment? If so, sometimes it is hard to keep children away from what they see when they return home from school. I am not judging this boy at all, but I really don't think that saying he is from Lowellville makes him some sort of upstanding citizen.
