Any business would go broke instantly without electricity, water, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, police, fire, health/medical services for employees/customers and schools - elementary, middle, secondary and universities.
And the arts are very much part of economic development.
Thus a "CHAMBER" for one function of a community makes no sense.

SCOPE’s business is none of your business
And we learn again why the United Way was created in the first place all those many years ago.
The administrative oversight provided by the United Way would have prevented these series of problems from Day #1.

Panel revisits traffic-camera idea
If you want to know why you don't want Red Light cameras just pull up Google and type in the little box... HOUSTON TEXAS RED LIGHT CAMERAS.
Don't even think about Red Light Cameras or anything else that stinks of Big Brother ...watching over dumb citizens.

If the case is a sham, why not let the public see and decide?
There is always wisdom in allowing sleeping dogs lie - especially if they are Rottweilers.
Few people have asked the question of how funds were obtained to build and then expand Southside Hospital all those years ago.
And more importantly what promises were made by whom in order to obtain the federal funds?
Did those promises follow the sale of the property?
Who would want to know that?

Powers to host singing contest
Thanks for being clear about Powers in the headline and the article.
Every time I see 'DeYor' I think of some pretentious cook in small town Arizona schlepping a new flavor of BBQ sauce.

Kelly Pavlik’s reputation takes a huge hit
Arum said ...“It was a helluva deal and it’s the best possible deal.”
Apparently it wasn't good enough and I agree with Kelly.
If your going to risk permanent brain damage might as well shoot for the stars and get in line for the Vegas shows.
Or especially get in line for the huge new markets for foreign competition.
Just saying.

Pill Problems
Prescription-drug abuse and addiction is epidemic in the Mahoning Valley?
Who said the abuse and addiction is epidemic?
Where are the proper research studies referenced or is this just another epidemic of the day.
Epidemic du Jour!

Betras battles the Chamber
Suppose all of this "nastyiness" is why most cities dropped the name Chamber of Commerce many MANY years ago?
It all has to do with economic development for cities or towns.
In Cleveland it is the Greater Cleveland Partnership (Formerly, The Cleveland Growth Association)
http://www.gcpartnership.com/
And in Houston, Texas it is the Greater Houston Partnership

Youngstown’s future is bleak
Does it make any common sense for a city with a population of 66,971 to have a city council and a county government entity?
Not to mention the same logic mess for the City of Warren and Trumbull County.
All of these city and country elected officials are trying to grab their share of any monies that show-up for their voters.
Yet the amount of money that does show-up doesn't amount to much.
Moving elected officials out of their ten bedroom government city/county home and into one home with a planning department seems rational.
