Maybe I've been too critical of Kelly. And with that I am sorry about my negative remarks. However, with Pavlik's past triumphs, he has made the people of Youngstown proud. If he moves to a new weight class, he'll go up against tougher competition. But he is still a part of the spirit of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. Being from Canonsburg, in Washington County, we had a fighter who was a local hero here. His name is Sammy Angott, and he's from Washington, Pa. Search 'Sammy Angott' on Yahoo and Google, and you'll find out that he is to us in Washington County as is Kelly in the Mahoning Valley. Sorry about the verbal abuse on Kelly, hopefully he'll be a champion again. BTW: The Cavs will finish off the Bulls tonight, hopefully Shaq can destroy Joakim Noah just like Pavlik can destroy anyone. I apologize for my actions, good luck to Kelly in the future.
Another reason white boxers are not very common today. There are more black players in the NBA and NFL than whites. If Kelly wants to regain being a winner, play for the Stanley Cup Champion PENGUINS. At least white people excel in that sport. Kelly: hang up the gloves and join the Pens. You'd do well with Sid and Geno.
Youngstown is located near Cleveland, a town that has seen a lot of CHOKE ARTISTS since 1964. Yet another wonderful choke job for the state of Ohio. The Cavs in the '07 Finals. The Indians in the 97 Series and the 07 ALCS. Ohio State in the 07 and 08 BCS Title Games. The Bengals in 05 and 09. And of course, the CLEVELAND BROWNS, from 1999 to 2009. I heard Obama is repossessing the Pavlik's house and former Browns owner ART MODELL is taking it over. At least he brought Cleveland and Youngstown a winner in 2001...in BALTIMORE.
Oh, the REAL reason Boom Boom retired? Three words: DUK. KOO. KIM. Duk Koo Kim would come back as Sergio Martinez, and the death of boxing in Youngstown is complete. End. Of. Story.
You know the real reason Pavlik lost? All that media attention before his fight in 2008 with Hopkins. ESPN's "E60" sent one of their mouthpieces, Jeremy Schaap, who more than a human jockstrap than the father of journalist Dick Schaap, interviewed him, and it was featured in ESPN The Magazine. Pavlik rewarded ESPN readers and viewers who followed his story by losing. If he leaves Youngstown, then he can join CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Manny Ramirez, Brady Quinn, Braylon Edwards, Barry Bonds and Santonio Holmes as athletes who left the Cleveland-Youngstown-Pittsburgh region for fame and fortune, with LeBron added to the list if Cleveland does not win in June. Have Kelly hang out with Tiger Woods, Ben Roethlisberger, Jesse James and Jon Gosselin for a while until his next bout, and then he'll be a hero. Or maybe follow in Kurt Angle's footsteps and join the WWE. Or maybe join Strikeforce, and be part of another embarrassing brawl live on CBS. At least the GM plant is showing signs of life, but memo to Kelly Pavlik: just hang out with Big Ben, Tiger and Jon Gosselin and take some HGH injections with Barry Bonds. Then you can be champion again.
