Should same-sex marriage be allowed throughout the United States?

Nice idea, GoPens, but I think we both know were such a direct letter would go - straight into the Editor's circular file.

The Editor is obviously deranged as well and there's plenty of evidence to support my position. This dolt elects to publish these kinds of lunatic letters on a weekly basis. There's nothing new about Mr. Mineral Ridge's letter. This letter is just part of a long stream of lunacy letters that he salivates over every day as he contemplates its positioning in the letters section.

In my opinion, the entire Vindy crew is brain dead and shameless. Why do you think they freely publish the weekly lunacy from Lionis and the others who are capable of little more than blathering on and on about the minutia of the new pope's garments and the color of his shoes.

They're hopeless.

Should same-sex marriage be allowed throughout the United States?

As I opened my local newspaper this morning and headed, as I usually do, straight to the Letters to the Editor section to see what kind of stupid and ridiculous nonsense the Letters Editor decided was worthy of publishing in today’s newspaper, a question that has been with me for a very long time reoccurred to me, namely: Do the thoughts and ruminations of the mentally impaired deserve any recognition whatsoever beyond that of a mental health worker assigned to help him work through his mental illness?

This may seem like a bizarre question to ask but I implore the reader to consider whether or not it is acceptable for a newspaper to print a letter from one of its readers that advances these kinds of stupid, ridiculous and egregious notions: White people are superior to non-white people. Jews are the scourge of the Earth and should all be exterminated as quickly as possible. Those who reject the doctrine of the Trinity should be burned alive at the stake. Those who even question virgin births, transubstantiation or “heavenly resurrections” must be laid on a rack, stretched until their joints crack apart and then have their tongues cut out – all done, of course, while they’re still alive. Take your pick or ask one of your own. There are literally hundreds of questions like these that one could ask in pursuit of an answer to the basic question of whether or not the ideas of mentally impaired deserve to be uncritically shared.

Carrying this consideration one step further, if an individual’s mental condition is such that viewpoints like these are freely expressed, does it necessarily follow that a newspaper Letter’s Editor is obligated to print them for a wider audience to read?

If one answered this question in the affirmative, then it will come as a surprise to no one that letters from the lunatic segment of a newspaper’s readership would regularly find their way into the newspaper’s Letters section as was the letter from an obviously mentally impaired individual from Mineral Ridge who wrote a letter entitled, “Young are Being Brainwashed” (3/24/13) that advanced the notion that only those who subscribe to so-called “pure heterosexuality” are worthy of full inclusion is our democracy and legal system and furthermore, that if you believe otherwise you are either an “atheist, agnostic or a leftist subversive” hell-bent on destroying “.. what’s left of the traditional values”of our country.”

One can only speculate what would possess a seemingly rational and thoughtful newspaper Letters editor to publish such lunacy. From my perspective, I’m inclined to believe that it’s possible because the Editor’s mindset is (a) on the same plane as the letter writer himself or (b) because the Editor believes that such a viewpoint is legitimate because it is representative of the newspaper’s audience at large.

The truth behind gun violence

Yea, I wholeheartedly agree with this writer. I think we should return to the really good old days when we stoned people to death if they were found to collect firewood on the Sabbath, killed our children for acts of disobedience, frikkazeed women for witchcraft, Iron Maidened the brilliant minds who dared to look through a telescope at the night sky and postulate that we were not the center of the universe and made slaves of everyone who managed to survive the massacres of our tribe.

Yea, those were the good old days of high morality alright. We gotta' get back to basics fast or our country will become another Sodom and Gomorrah.
