Youngstown State University: Deficit increases by $4.5M

At least two professors who had officially retired are who are now working in the Provost offices managed to receive nice pay increases in advance of these talks. Not too bad a deal making six figures over your state pension. I do agree with Walter that the Eastern Gateway did take in students who would otherwise have gone directly to YSU. Why the decrease is even news is beyond me. The last two years were as everyone knows higher numbers than had been realized in quite some time. Those numbers were certainly not the norm so how can we even refer to the present enrollment numbers as being "low" in comparison? Lower than the highest it had been in quite some time? well then, sure, they ARE "lower". It is all about posturing and spin. The Governor gave the orders and ,right or wrong, the University negotiators will not back off from their wobbly stance.

Parking deck plan worries YSU group

They should tear the deck down but only AFTER one is built across Fifth ave with a pedestrian walkway identical to the one over Wick ave. This would be the smartest thing for YSU to do as far as the future of the students, the faculty and the visitors to football games and events are concerned. It would be another entrance into the campus of YSU.Until then, the Lincoln deck ought to be repaired so that adequate parking can be maintained while plans for a new deck are made firm. You're welcome.

Sweet era ending

I fell that we all need to be aware of the financial challenges facing us all especially as it pertains to higher education today and so it is with that in mind that NO we will not "buy your house back" !

YSU president's tenure to end

"What about my golden medallions? Can I keep those? How's $280,000 for my house sound? Can I design my own statue of me? And what about travel expenses? Its not like I still won't travel anywhere! Relocation costs! I need relocation costs covered! Do you people realize how much it will cost to move back to my home in Cleveland?"

Many give a thumbs down to teen policy at Tinseltown

they shouldn't stop there! I have paid full-price for evening weekend first-run movies just to have the entire "movie going experience" ruined because some lame lady had to park herself and her talkative friend right in front of us. People listen! The public theater is NOT your living room. Repeat. Its NOT your living room. Talking to one another about what happend, what might happen next and who said whatever is not anthting close to why we go out to enjoy a good film. I do not pay good money to hear your own play by play commentary to your friend and whoever is on your cell phone. Folks today just do not get it. They are rude to bring phones without turning them off. They are rude to think they can talk loud enough to one another so everyone around them has to be distracted. No wonder we have problems with these teens doing it, too. Teach those kids to have a little respect for other paying customers or keep 'em out.

Your Pilgrim ideas needed

The old church should be razed after any stain glass, supplies from the old restaurant downstairs or woodworking can be sold. The proceeds could go to specifically aid the arts. An old place like that has got to cost a small fortune in utilities (heating ,cooling) not to mention physical upkeep. I would imagine it to be a huge undertaking costing a lot of money for making the main sacristy area into separate floors with rooms to be used by who? We have enough vacant office spaces downtown. It would be nice to help connect YSU with the downtown by opening that small corner lot up so people can see jones hall when they drive up wick.In the future, if there is enough support for the arts, then build a nice studio or place for artists to work and show their work as the campus is expanded.

Do you believe blimp-like aircraft will come to Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport?

I think its a wonderful idea. I too, would like to help the area economy. I am currently working on ways to breed pigs with wings!I admit that there has been little success thus far, but hey I am working on it and just need a few bucks to get this piggy off the ground.

We need job restoration here people not job creation.

Wrecking ball targets YSU deck

That is correct. You and your vehicles are safer at YSU than when you park your car at the mall! The YSU police are great even though in some cases there is not much they can do when there is car damage. But this is the same anywhere and in any case where the person has left the scene without a plate no., description or anything for any police dept. to go on. Wherever you are in any city you need to be smart about where you walk and at what time of day, etc. It is no different at YSU than it is anywhere.

Wrecking ball targets YSU deck

I cannot wait for the day after they tear the parking deck down. I will be so much fun to watch 900 cars scrambling for a space where none can be found. Hello YSU! Its a COMMUTER SCHOOL! Why not at least build a new deck across Fifth Avenue? Make a pedestrian walkway like the one that crosses Wick. No THAT'S a PLAN. But for now lets just ignore the needs of students who commute to YSU and have fun watching them scream as they are late for classes.
