Our government has been overthrown by several corporate entities (families, essentially) and the people (urbanites, suburbanites, ruralites) have been discounted and set aside while still funding the government. So.....if the Youngstown Vindicator "votes no", and "billions (are) invested in Ohio", what do we conclude? That this is a good thing? There's not enough "cash" on the planet to pay for the minerals and elements that are up for sale by those who have no natural claim to them. KNOWING this doesn't make me a punk, it makes me a human being. VOTE YES on MAY 7th!
Thus far, it is private citizens and in-house whistleblowers who have been active in reigning in these companies when they overstep their bounds. Those who are charged with the professional duty and obligation of doing this have removed all bounds. It's all become so sad and so sick.
Askme.....That's sort of funny in an odd way! Thank you. The truth is, we all do have only so many years here. It's not like any one of us is going to be here forever. Most every society/civilization that has existed has caused some major catastrophic problem for itself. You'd think by now we'd have learned something about how to AVOID these rather than rush headlong into them. I will continue to believe and hope that each of these societies had some group of people waving the red flag and pleading with the others to "stop!, wake up! look!, listen!" Hey, create the extraordinary, yes?
If the state, ODNR, and any other state agencies have complete oversight when it comes to fracking, I'd say it's time NOW to pass this charter amendment. It's been "the people" who have been active in researching and watching over this process and this industry, then passing on the information to these state agencies, not vice versa. This is a fact to keep in mind at the polls next week.
This headline poses an incredibly silly question. There is now nothing left for opponents of the amendment to do but to state that the amendment is unenforceable? The many jobs that were supposed to come with drilling turned out to be but a few, and the positions are filled by out-of-staters. The flow of gas & oil that was supposed to flood us all with riches isn't panning out. Any monies that are coming from this debacle are ending up in the pockets of a very select few (again, out-of-staters). This entire "shale-play" is a farce that is going to end up harming us all in ways we can't imagine. At that point, these companies will pack up and move on. And, UticaShale, nobody cares what the Vindy votes. That publication has been WIDELY KNOWN for it's industry/corporate bias for a very long time, so on that note, your point is absolutely moot.
When a multi-billion dollar industry buys your government and takes over lands....and a group of citizens commit themselves to protecting our source of life, the equation speaks for itself (making it "self-evident")!
Vote *YES* on the Youngstown COMMUNITY BILL of RIGHTS.
*YES*, it is enforceable! *YES* it will wake up our local representatives to explore and support jobs in clean & re-newable energy! *YES* it will push us into the 21st Century where we belong! Vote *YES* on May 7th.
GO clean, renewable energy. This shale play is a big dud! It's causing irreversible damage to the environment, including our drinking water......and for what??? It's a gargantuan experiment and it isn't going well.
Nope! I appreciate dry cleaning, I enjoy driving, and I fall in love again every time I indulge in a Dairy Queen treat. I DO NOT trust, believe in, or support the overbearing, underhanded practices of the gas & oil industry! Aerosols and certain cosmetics are also a scam and a sham, but that's not the point here. The point is, and will remain,....it's 2013 and there's a better way than the way that's being broadcast. To: oh13voter.....the justly tagged "Halliburton Loophole" IS a part of the Energy Policy of 2005. It's not NOT a part of it, it IS a part of it. It exempts hydraulic fracturing and the ingredients used in the process from both the Clean Water Act ('72) and the Safe Drinking Water Act ('74).
Then WHY is there a well within the area of the Meander Reservoir, very close to a stream leading directly into our drinking water source? WHY? There is an answer and the public deserves to hear it!!! No rhetoric, no discourse, just a clear and honest answer. WHY?
Backers of charter amendment are using manufactured issues

Anti-fracking issue on May 7 ballot triggers controversy: Can it be enforced?

State’s commitment to protect Meander will be put to the test as oil and gas drilling expands
I so agree, repeaters! Is this really how any commitment to those one serves needs to be tested? BIZARRE!!!
