Cash tolls on Pa. Turnpike to rise 10% in 2012

Thank you PA Turnpike for raising your rates. I will go the "back" way through Columbiana and through Chippewa. You will not get one more dollar from me.

Old Warren high school faces wrecking ball

The last class to graduate from WWR was 1990. So it couldn't have been a junior high in 1989. Mrs. Limperos is incorrect on a couple things. The school DID have air conditioning. Whether or not it is still functioning is another issue. The building isn't that old, so how can the utilities be that high. What building that large doesn't have a high cost of utilities. Regardless, times are a changing.

Warren seeks skate-park locale

Tom: Well said. The idea that skate parks lead to crime is the most ridiculous statement you can make. Warren has had the grant money since 2004 and is just now talking about building it? What has happened the past 5 years? Build the skate park on the old Turner property and be done with it. It is out in the open and the police can access it easily as well as monitor the park easily.

The people who complain have NO IDEA what they are talking about!!! Show me the statistics and data that a skate park draws crime. The kids want to skate and that's it.

Tom, please email the Editor with the Tribune Chronicle as well. Maybe he will publish your letter. We need more facts and less of people complaining about things of which they don't know what they are talking about.

BUILD THE SKATE PARK ALREADY. 5 YEARS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF TIME TO WORK OUT ALL ISSUES!!!

Land swap, tax profits at play in V&M deal

Why is V&M insistent on annexing Girard? That question isn't being answered, just that V&M wants to annex, but no reason.

"The proposed new V&M facility is owned by Youngstown but located in Girard. It will become part of Youngstown shortly, at the insistence of V&M."

We aren't seeing the whole picture. Regardless I hope a deal will be done to get these jobs here. This could be the spark the Valley needs to light the fire.

Deal for V&M key on land transfer

UnionForever - Annexation of one city to another happens all the time. It happened in Columbus a lot.

Foxtrot - you have made some serious allegations. But since you are posting anonymously, I find everything you are saying hard to believe. I am not saying there isn't an ounce of truth, just wondering how much is your perspective as opposed to actual fact.

It seems we are surrounded by liars, deceivers and connivers. I am not sure who to believe. On the outside it seems simple. Girard should sell the 80 acres to Youngstown and get the deal done. 400 - 500 jobs are at stake. I don't believe for one instant if Girard did that they would walk away with nothing. All of the facts aren't being told and I am sure not going to believe anonymous posters.

Since I am sure there are more intelligent posters on here than me, how about someone post a solution to the problem at hand. Throw some ideas out there.

Thank you

‘Welcome home Jimbo’ countdown

MonarchPass and oldstown: Monarch, you left in 1979 yet you come on this website and give your unexplainable opinion. How is The Valley the social, cultural and economic backwater you claim? Everyone knows of the Valleys economic struggles. But what do YOU mean? Sounds more like drivel. oldstown: the only people who know about Youngstown is NE Ohio and western PA. Outside of that no one cares.

People make these ridiculous statements and comparisons to nothing. Corruption? Has anyone read the story of the Mayors and Rabbis in NJ busted for corruption? Yet you have the nerve to call Youngstown a laughingstock or socially backward? Are you kidding?

From Reuters: "Dozens of New Jersey politicians, officials and prominent rabbis were arrested on Thursday in a sweeping federal probe that uncovered political corruption, human organ sales and money laundering from New York to Israel, officials said."

What Jimmy did was NOTHING compared to what other politicians do and get away with. Let's compare apples to apples.

Forum will ask judge to void 2 labor contracts

RFederer - You have no idea what you are talking about. You are anti-union without even knowing why you are anti-union. Your opinion is based on others opinion who are anti-union. You don't even try to see both sides of the story. The Union gave Forum everything they asked. Forum is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on "consultants", giving bonuses in the millions to upper management who just ran the company into bankruptcy, among other wasted money.

How is management not to blame. What was the previous CEO's buyout? What was the pay of the top executives? Yet I am sure you cry over Union wages. Have you ever worked in a hospital? Have you talked to a nurse?

The doc has the contract right. Judges typically step in when the Union doesn't bargain in good faith, which this Union has. Then again judges don't always follow the law.

On top of all that, who is going to serve the poor of Youngstown? That is primarily who comes to Northside. One of the major contributors to that hospital losing money is that a high percentage of people go there for treatment who have no health insurance.

Let's look at this in the big picture. How about the contracts get voided, they bring in non-Union workers who make half of what the Union nurses make, then we can bring in LESS tax money to an already weak tax base.

In my opinion, companies are filing bankruptcy right now because it is the thing to do. It used to be a black eye. Not any longer. It is easier to file bankruptcy, get out from paying your debt, void contracts then it is to work out of it. Then the top brass can still walk away with there multi-million dollar bonuses. Yet a nurses making 15-$20 an hour makes too much money. Management doesn't want to work anything out, they know filing is easier, and they still get paid.

Amweld retirees blindsided by insurance cancellation

aeparish and scrooge, I forgot that Aetna said they are not collecting the funds. That being said, it still can't hurt to file the complaint anyway with both agencies because they, Amweld and or Aetna, have a certain number of days to respond, by law. This may start the investigation process. My other idea is that instead of waiting for Mr. Ryan to do something this may give those affected an option to do something on their own instead of relying on someone else. And by judging some of these comments very few posters believe Mr. Ryan will do anything. I just wanted to give some options for people. They may or may not work but it can't hurt. Especially if everyone affected does it.

Amweld retirees blindsided by insurance cancellation

I don't know if this is the best or even correct way to go about it but it is a thought. Aetna is still collecting premiums for a service not being rendered. You can contact Ohio Department of Insurance and file a complaint with the Superintendent of Insurance. You may be able to file a complaint the Ohio's Attorney General as well. It makes sense that if they are still collecting a premium they need to be providing a service. Of course Amweld could be keeping the money and not paying Aetna. Either way these options are free and don't take a lot of effort. I have had to use this option myself against a previous auto insurer and I did get results. My prayers go out to the Amweld retirees.
