State funds for Liberty schools come with long string attached

Obermiyer is just the puppet - Kathy Carlile appears to be the one pulling the strings. Why has the Board/State not gone after her ( Tracy's) bond? Why was the Board so quick to settle the claims with LEAD and LEARN, especially without all the facts? Why was Carlile allowed to walk away with several hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment? Why has the board yet to fill the vacancy created by Gloria Lang's resignation in September. Lots of questions - too few answers.

Halloween Night? Christmas Day? What’s it matter ...

Thanks for pointing out this idiocy. My community had it Saturday 4 -6 ( thereby precluding us from attending the YSU game) and permitting all the starving urchins from neighboring communities to descend on us, since their communities had theirs on a later day ( thereby teaching our children how to double dip). Is it too much to ask that communities co-ordinate this, if in fact they are going to move Halloween, so that it is moved to the same time and Day?

Liberty schools face fiscal mess

Obermeiyer was failing to file proper reports for 16 months and nobody knew? C'mon. You want to tell me that the State did not contact the Supt. or Board about this long before now? Seems seven people were " asleep at the switch" - 2 Supts. ( Lucas and Watson) and the 5 Board members. This is an SB5 neutral issue - it would have had zero impact on this. Nunya and plak - stay on topic!

Betras, Munroe have war of words

Betras is only the latest of a long line of embarrassments from the Mahoning Valley ( think Jimbo, Marc Dann, Jimmy Philomena, etc. etc). He wasn't able to deliver for the Dems last November and will similarly fail on the SB 5 campaign this fall. Apparently he did not even spell Munroe's name right in the press release and the letter. Why is the Vindy giving this noise maker any coverage. He absolutely feeds on it . Take away his sustenance -PLEASE!

Firefighters let home burn down; owner didn't pay fee

You students of history will recall this is the way it used to be. One paid the subscription, in return for which a medallion was placed on your house to assure that the fire department would put out the fire.

Creditors or obstructionists?

BTW, the proceedings in Bankruptcy Court are not taking place in Cleveland ( although all of the lawyers for the major players are from Cleveland or even further away). The hearings are in downtown Youngstown, at the federal courthouse at the corner of Wick and Commerce.

Cafaro family donates $1 million to YSU project

The Cafaros now attempt to cleanse their name by associating with the untarnished Tressel and Watson families. Innocence by association doesn't work.

Youngstown lawmaker pans court ruling on speeding tickets

"And as far as rogue cops going around issuing speeding tix when there really was no speeding, that is a fear that just wouldn't be realized. As it is now, cops can issue all kinds of tix that require no proof other than their word (no turn signal, crossing center line, driving w/o lights on, reckless operation, etc. etc. etc.) and it isn't happening wide scale. (of course, I'm sure it has happened though)."

Never been to Boston Heights???

Tell us about your streets! How did the plowers do?

Kudos to the crews in Trumbull County. Streets in Liberty, Niles, Girard and Brookfield in great shape. Can't say the same for the Northside of Y-town. You can really tell when you cross the county line at Gypsy Lane.
