When a statement like this is made to the Public “There’s a hiring freeze, effective immediately,” said Ron Cole, YSU spokesman.”
Then why was V.P. of Student Affairs, Jack Fahey’s daughter, Laura Thomas HIRED?” Oh Yes it was at a very nice salary too with wonderful healthcare and pension.
I guess the old saying of “Do as you’re told not as I do” something like that applies here. Sooooooo, the Faculty, Staff, Student Body and the Public must just deal with it as the Elite at YSU continue on with their cronyism and nepotism.

This is ACT II from the 2008 negotiations debacle. It’s not about the STUDENTS, it should be, but yet it isn’t. In 2008 it was about YSU’s Centennial. Negotiations had to be completed on time at any/all cost. Remember that huge amounts of money were flowing in from Alumni and the Valley’s affluent. Fast forward to 2011 and now you have payback for the 2008 negotiations at any/all cost especially to the STUDENTS. The Sweet Administration deceived the BOT with the help of Dr. Cyndy Anderson, Dr. Ikram Khawajwa and Mr. Eugene Grilli, just review the email from July 2008 that’s been floating around campus the last three years which evidenced their involvement in the cover-up. Board Chairman Scott Schulick felt personally embarrassed as well as the entire BOT. Now it’s Dr. Anderson, Dr. Khawaja, Mr. Grilli and the BOT’s time to get revenge. Yes, yes, conveniently Mr. Schulick steps down as the Chairman, what timing!
In Executive Session, the Fact Finder’s Report was rejected on the advice of Mr. Martin Bramlett and Mr. Kevin Reynolds from Human Resources and Attorney George Crisci. Interesting that these three individuals are affiliated with Union busting law firms. Once again the BOT and especially the PUBLIC is being fed bad information concerning the financial health of the University. I wonder why the University administration won’t release the enrollment numbers. With the 3.5% increase in tuition (students must pay more monetarily) combined with another record increase in student enrollment which increases Ohio state subsidies, the University administration will once again bestow themselves with equity based pay increases to offset any increase in healthcare cost. They will then declare they have sacrificed too. What BULL! Let’s not forget the YSU Foundation with its 150 million dollars that support the University. Why wouldn’t the YSU Foundation absorb the 3.5% tuition increase for a year and give the STUDENTS a break. Really Reid, you can’t swing this offer to students one time?
When the dust finally settles, I see Bramlett and Reynolds being sacrificed just as Habat and Chatman were for the 2005 strike. Can anyone remember the Labor Panel and its Report to the Board of Trustees? Attorney Crisci will go quietly away counting his stack of money as did Attorney Wilkins in 2005…continuing to practice their craft with their next victim.
Who suffers most…the STUDENTS, ALUMNI, the MAHONING VALLEY and its CITIZENS. Will YSU ever have a competent leader on its BOT like Dr. Perry, and a University President like Dr. Neil Humphey?.

I concur 100% with your statement. Anderson and Khawaja are shameless individuals. The Punitive side of them is from the last round of negotiations due to the fact they were exposed for misleading the BOT and along with Schulick. Doesn’t anyone wonder why Schulick stepped out to the roll as Chairmen? I wish I could receive the lucrative contract Anderson receives. Let’s not forget Khawaja who is collecting a pension of a $100,000 plus and $180,000 plus salary from YSU and an additional annuity after he retires a third time. Triple dipper, OH Yeah he’s Administrator.
Anderson tenure at YSU will for always be tainted. Who would have thought that David Sweet’s Administration would have been missed?? HA!!!!
I totally agree with you. The Vindy has an obligation to share all the facts about Dr. Anderson. As stated in previous posts, leadership starts at the top.
Example of a recent Perk: The University purchased Dr. Anderson’s mini van at the tune of $16,000 which was taken from the Grounds Department budget. I’m sure Mr. Ewing, Director of Campus Grounds wasn’t too happy when he uncovered this back room deal.
Then the University handed her the keys right back to use as a University vehicle while the employees are asked to take concessions and students are paying more in tuition fees.
What Say You Board of Trustees? I’m sure this was just an oversight? Maybe this was her sacrifice?
I guess since it’s a University vehicle, the University is paying for her insurance coverage and fuel cost.
I agree with you 1000%. If all Faculty and staff are being required to take no raises and pay cuts WHY? Should Chief Jack Gocala receive one, that’s right he’s Administrator. His work hasn’t changed in the last 16 years. The University allows him to take a university patrol car home every night. Who pays for the gas, We do! Meanwhile, Mr. John Hyden head of Facilities on campus instructs his Maintenance Personnel that we have no money to fix the lights on campus or security cameras and God Forbid the restrooms.
The University likes to brag about how safe and clean they are but you have a number of security cameras that haven’t worked since 1995, example, camera above the Williams parking lot. Yeah that’s right!
Look out for those equity base salary adjustments the University likes to give their already over paid Administrators. Unlike the raises the Vindy reports on, these thousands of dollars of adjustments go unnoticed while students continue to pay higher fees and tuition.
Example, Mr. John Hyden just recently informed his middle management supervisors, Mr. Vincent Sacco, Mr. Richard White, Mr Michael Orto and Mr. Feldmen that they weren’t receiving any raise or salary adjustment this year but he was receiving his increase/salary adjustment. The gentlemen above weren’t too happy.
Oh well, life continues at YSuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu……………..
Shameful, its one scandal after another at YSU. I have less respect for YSU, Administrators, Board of Trustees and its Unions. The Faculty (OEA) are preparing to strike, ACE has a member stealing funds, APAS is the step child to all participates and FOP are Dr. Anderson’s pets. Geezzz, this Institution of Higher Learning is really screw-up!
Does anyone no why the County or City Prosecutor hasn’t taken any action?
I know many in those offices have worked at YSU at one time or another but that’s no reason not to perform their duties to the Tax payers of our City or County. I for one will not vote for the current County Prosecutor next election cycle nor will I vote for the City Prosecutor if he runs. They both have violated the public trust and are longer effective.
As deficit mounts, YSU freezes most hiring
Question to Mr. Ron Cole and Vindy,
When a statement like this is made to the Public “There’s a hiring freeze, effective immediately,” said Ron Cole, YSU spokesman.”
