What is really fishy is the fact that American Tax Funding apparently has the incredible sole contract to buy tax liens for pennies on the dollar, charge the delinquent taxpayer full price plus exorbitant interest of 18% per month. The law that permits this has to be the most oppressive law ever enacted by the State and one that is open to all kinds of abuses. Why don't the affected taxpayers join in a huge protest to their legislators and to Mike DeWine? I'd like to know how American Tax Funding got this monopoly. This situation has a really bad aroma to it.
I do not understand why Sammarone is persisting in his efforts when the paid consultants and council members are all opposed. The center was run by an out of town management company and the results were disastrous. It is certainly on the upswing now. Is this just his ego talking? And if the leasing occurs and does not work out, he will no longer be mayor. This is a mystery to me.
I cannot believe the negative comments--Kelly has been a great fighter and very generous with his time in Youngstown. He has his demons, but has tried to deal with them. Can't we concentrate on the good? I hope he came out of this with enough money to make his life comfortable.
I am watching with great interest to see if these criminal charges are valid or simply political. That surely is a good way to wreak vengeance on your political enemies--get criminal charges against them, then make it so that they cannot afford to put up a valid defense. To me, there is a strong odor to all of these charges. And, even if defendants are acquitted, you can depend on Bertram to denote them always as "criminally indicted." Makes me kind of sick.
Unionforever, what in the world can you possibly be thinking? I cannot believe than anyone would absolutely look for something negative to say in a time like this. I join others in telling you to keep your stupid opinion to yourself. What kind of responsibility would Jamail Johnson have for the presence of an under age girl at that party? From all accounts, he was a splendid young man and went out of his way to be a role model for youngsters. I am white and am both grieving for him and praying for his loved ones. You might take note that he was trying to keep others safe when he was gunned down by really worthless thugs. RIP, Jamail
Such a horrible event--so sorry for all of those grieving and suffering. I have so many questions--what were these thugs even doing at a fraternity party? Frightening to realize that a 17 year old college student could be partying at that hour. And what in the world made these men think that they could do such a thing and suffer no consequences? I know it is an old fashioned idea, but there is true evil existing in Youngstown. There is no point blaming the justice system--our prisons are so overcrowded that prosecutors and judges have to take that into consideration--sad but true. And we taxpayers do not want to pay any more money to expand the prison system--and prisoners can sue if conditions are too bad.
I will be interested to see how this trial plays out. I cannot understand why political figures who oppose an action by other political officials can be accused criminally of conspiracy. I certainly hope the prosecutors have more evidence than it appears that they have right now. Also, I support Judge Wolff's action--it's about time someone has the guts to call attention to the Vindicator's mean-spirited bias. The only sad part is that no matter what the outcome of the trial is, the Vindicator and Bertram DeSouza will never let it rest--the defendants will forever be referred to as "indicted" and if, perchance, they are not convicted, the implication will always be that there must have been some hanky panky--NEVER admitting that they may be innocent of these very strange charges. I heard a rumor that George Tablack issued an E-mail telling the employees of DHS that they could be criminally charged if they voiced any opposition to the OakHill move. Are these charges a great threat to the First Amendment rights of the defendants? Just asking.
Kind of makes me wonder what was going on at the facility in Canton that this kid was willing to risk so much to avoid going back there. Hope the matter is investigated completely--if he is just a bad egg, so be it, but still.......

There’s no one solution to slow hospital readmission epidemic
How about not rushing people out as soon as possible? One more day to give instructions and preparations for going home might help.
