Brookfield is placing a 1 mill safety forces levy - to be split equally between fire and police - (which I support) on the November ballot. If this goes throught what happens to levy monies the police will get. This could endanger the levy passing. Also why was Vienna not included in this study as they share borders and Hubbard city does not.
The notation that seniors would not be paying the income tax is only true if you file single with a AGI (Adjusted Gross Earnings) below $25,000 and those earnings come from social security and other combined income (pension, interest, dividends, IRA/401(k) distributions). However if you are a senior and file with combined earnings of $25,000 to $34,000 you pay tax on 50% of your social security and if over $34,000 you pay tax on 85% of your social security. (a joint return and the numbers are $34,000 to $44,000 tax on 50% on social security earnings and if over $44,000 you pay tax on 85%) Brookfield pays 51.85 mills for school taxes currently. The 1% income tax was adopted instead of adding 9.13 mills. I encourage homeowners to be sure they have filed the Homestead Exception credit for seniors over 65 with the Trumbull Auditor. Hopefully more information will be available as to the rationale of wage taxing residents and having non-residents workers excluded (Google PDF Guide to Ohio’s School District Income Tax) vs having all resident and corporation property subject to the additional mills.
Interesting observation that would merit a reason why: "It is instructive that most faculty around the country are represented by the American Association of University Professors.........Yet, their union is mostly made up of school teachers." Anyone care to enlighten?
Sounds like some here have been drinking the protest koolaid and need an optirectomy. Just where do the occupiers expect their home mortage, auto loan or educational loans/grants will come: Financial companies. If the agrument is Dem's or Republicans or Tea Party support or get your slate of candidates to run on election day; and of course vote. Just remember like your Facebook pages having your name in the paper or being seen on TV voicing your oposition against the establishment may encouratge a future employeer hire the next person. John McCain would be President now had he not picked her to be his VP running mate. He and his handlers did not do a proper vetting on this 3rd party extremist.
Suggest a more thorough read: "ACE employees’ health- care contributions also will increase to 10 percent of the premium the first year, 12 percent the second and 15 percent the third year." Percent is of the PREMIUM not SALARY. A $1500 family plan would max out at $225 per month at 15% contribution. At 1.5% of salary prior contract would have paid $87.50 (using annual salary of $70K) now they pay $137.50 more. Private sector shares approximately 20% to 25%. Will be interesting to see what deductibles and co-pays they now have.
Normal in manufacturing industry is a shared percentage of health care. Most companys pay 75% to 80% leaving 20% to 25% for employees portion. ($1500 family plan = $300 to $375 per month). Now days there are 3 plans: employee, employee plus 1 and family. Spouses employeed full time are excluded if they have access to benefits from their own employer plans. The deductible, first dollars out of pocket, continues to rise annually as do co-pay dollars or percentage. Plans are not salary based but plan based. Self pay plans hire a third party administrator to handle all claims that go directly to the companys P & L.
As as graduate of YSU, and now a retired private professional, I appreciate the value of an education from qualified faculty members. What I do not appreciate is media negotiating like this letter or having the Linkon - Russo debates (Center for Working-Class Studies) portraying bad faith bargaining. Sometimes a line in the sand is not bad faith but responsible accountability. Each side must make a determination when negotiations must end and settle. That is good bargaining not bad. YSU's union makes for poor confidence to the public and real public service workers/safety workers when independant student tuition is paying for faculty salaries and benefits. This union puts in jepoardy SB5 voitng results and may be their undoing.
derf you are correct. Close Northside and let the Mahoning Commisioners have a real building that is earthquake proof. Is it true that patient population has been less than employee population? Let St E's, Akron in Boardman or Trumbull absorb those patients. How many "knife and guns clubs do we need in Youngstown.
