Chief: Probe indicates cop did no wrong in shooting

First let me preface my comments by saying that I do not subscribe to the notion that all cops are pigs. I have police officers in my own family and I have respect for these fine men and women and I appreciate the risks they take to protect me and my loved ones. On the other hand, I do not believe that putting on a uniform automatically makes one above reproach. Just consider for one moment that perhaps the story Phil Chance has woven is not completely the truth. Remember, he has a lot to lose. If the Vindicator had posted Cory's side of the story instead of Phil Chance's report how would you have reacted? Stop for one minute and try to open up those little pea-sized minds of yours and consider that there just might be another scenario of which you are not aware.

Try this on for size. Cory Timmings is in his car waiting to pull out of the parking lot. Officer Chance is acting like a cowboy, running around macing a bunch of people. He shouts at Cory to turn his music down. Cory begins to drive out of the parking lot to go home because the police are telling everyone to leave. Phil Chance jumps in front of the vehicle (though I'm told that he was never on the hood of that car at all). All hopped up about the fight they were breaking up, he reaches in the window and grabs young Cory around the neck causing his car to lurch forward. Wait now, what was that he did next? He had the mace and he was up close and personal. Hmmm, I can't remember, did he mace him? Ohhh, that's right, I remember now - HE SHOT HIM! Now, if I were Cory Timmings and someone just shot me I think my first instinct would be to get as far away from that person as fast as I could before they shot me again. Phil Chance says he feared for his life. Did Cory have him tied to the bumper? All he had to do was let go. He was not being dragged. Plus, just how fast could Cory have been driving when pulling out of a parking lot? I attempt to kill people driving 10 mph all the time. Somehow, they always manage to move out of the way in time. I can't seem to figure it out. Evidently, Phil Chance doesn't get it either. Please don't put him on traffic duty. He's likely to be killed! Now, in all seriousness, I know for a fact that Cory did not - I repeat - DID NOT TRY TO RUN DOWN A POLICE OFFICER. Can you people get that fact through your thick heads? Oh, and try to get out and get some fresh air. I think all this time on the internet is fogging your brains.

Wow, you people really need to take up a hobby. I come back here weeks later and you are still singing the same old, tired tune. I guess this is where our tax dollars are going, to a police force who sit on the internet all day and play judge, jury and executioner. You all speak highly of our judicial system but you seem to conveniently forget one of our most fundamental rights - the presumption of innocence. You think you have all the facts. Think again. I read in another thread that Cory must be guilty because you have not seen him on the news telling his side of the story. Hmmm, I haven't seen Phil Chance on the news either. Wow, I guess he's guilty, too! Now, how ludicrous does that sound?

Calling all Chevy Vega owners - tell us your story

I had a yellow Vega station wagon back in 1980. I bought it used and I don't remember the year of the car. It got a young, divorced mother and her baby daughter to work and day care every day and it was a reliable car for some time. My problem was that it would take up to a half hour to start in the morning. I think we found the issue was with the solenoid. I imagine this was fixable but probably too expensive at the time for a young mother trying to make ends meet. I just got up and left for work a half hour earlier to allow myself time to start the car 100 times! :P

Well said, alove, and not immature in any way. As a matter of fact, your comments show so much more maturity than so many who have posted on this board. Kudos to you. Let's just hope and pray that the true story is brought to light. Thank you!

Man shot by city cop improves; chief hopes 3 probes end this week

Thank you knowthefacts and Hillary (etal) for your calm, concise assessments. I tried to speak sensibly to these posters but sadly I found that some are just too dull-witted to understand. You can tell them again and again that what they believe might not be true and they will insist that black is white. It's like talking to a wall. These posts are fraught with derogatory labels and statements about Cory (thug, inner city scum, ghetto criminal). They do not know anything about Cory and they are stereotyping him (wrongly, I might add) and making broad assumptions about his character. Only the ignorant assume, the wise weigh the facts and do not jump to their own, twisted conclusions. Cory is like a member of my own family and I know many, many people - pillars of the community - who will attest to his good character. I've said it before and I will say it again. Cory would never, ever intentionally try to harm anyone in this manner. Please let the investigators do their job and please, PLEASE show some compassion for Cory's parents who are beside themselves thinking that they might have lost their son. How evil can one's heart be that they can so casually talk about taking the life of another human being and have such disregard for a young person's family? Shame on you - all of you!

Now, go ahead, have at me. I can take it. Just please leave the Timmings family alone.

P. S. I am not a cop hater either. As a matter of fact, my father-in-law was a police officer, but I do know that cops are not gods and they can make mistakes, too, even if just a misperception of a situation.

<<In response to Bec: Hmmm Cory would never intentionally hurt anyone??? He purposefully aimed at the officer and hit him.>>

Okay, listen carefully - Officer Chance "alleges" that Cory "pointed his car directly at him and tried to hit him." Remember, Chance has a lot to lose if he is found to be in the wrong. You are making judgments based upon assumptions. Were you there? Can you read minds? I sincerely doubt it. Also, Cory is not "all of a sudden" a good kid. Just speak with anyone who knows him (teachers, coaches, family, friends) and they will tell you that he has always been a good kid, one of the nicest I know. I will say it again - Cory Timmings would NEVER, EVER intentionally hurt anyone in the manner alleged. Why don't you try to imagine that judgmental eye turned on you and some of your actions, past and present, and think about how you might have been crucified for some of the stupid things that have happened in your life? There but for the grace of God go I...

People, please remember that there are three sides to every story. Cory has not even had the opportunity to tell his story and you are all judging him and calling him a thug. Cory is a thoughtful, caring individual and he would never intentionally hurt anyone this way. Please do not sit up on your high horses and pass judgment about things you know nothing about. I thought we lived in a country where people are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Also, in case you don't know this part, officer Chance shot Cory in the back as he was driving away. This doesn't sound to me like someone who was fearing for his life and shooting in self defense. Wait until the investigation is complete and the whole story comes out before you so harshly judge another human being, one who is still in intensive care I might add. These comments only serve to hurt the loved ones of a young man who is fortunate to be alive after the reckless actions of someone who is supposed to protect him. Also, let's see what we can find out about this police officer. Has he done anything like this before?
