I've lived in this area all my life; and I must say the quality of teachers we had then are NOT the quality of teachers my children have now. I currently have five of my six children going to Austintown schools. They were in Catholic schools for most of it, and I will tell you that Catholic school teachers don't make what I believe everyone thinks they make. However, I know they loved and cared about each one of my children. When my husband lost his job; and I lost mine one year later, the principal told me she refused to turn away a parent based on their abilty to pay tuition if they truly desired to give their child a Catholic education. Trust me, if you think Catholic school teachers get higher pay because of the high tuition...just ask them.
Anyhow, do you have any idea what it is to work midnights or even a 10-hour day shift just to come home and have four kids asking you to help them with their homework? That may not be so bad if you weren't already dead on your feet and trying to cook dinner. The problem is that they send home a piece of paper most of the time with no book to find the instructions. Sorry, I don't remember exactly everything I learned 20 years ago so I might need a refresher. Not just that, but they are teaching different ways of working out math problems. If that's not enough stress, then go ahead and ask me how I'm going to come up with more tax dollars on my property when I'm happy to have enough money for groceries and gas to work.
Oh, and Ms. Aztec (the one who lives in Atlanta and says we're not supporting our education and therefore our community) you said we reap what we 'sew'. As a brilliant teacher getting paid brilliant money in Atlanta because you are getting paid what you're worth, I hope you are not an English or spelling teacher because I believe that would be, "You reap what you sow." Hey, and I don't even have a masters degree!
