The residents and community organizations would be better concerning themselves with keeping up their own places of residence before jumping the county on whatever potential blight that will be caused by the closure of this property.
The Auditor's and Commissioner's Office are more than capable of handling the closure of the South Side Annex, I'm sure they will do the right thing with this particular project.
And by the way, he forgets that most of those petitions for SB 5 were bought and paid for by circulators with money that came from ouside Ohio--which was also the point of my article.
Can't even get volunteers to go out their and do their own dirty work.
Zordich's letter was a waste of a column, he neither rebutted what I said nor made any logical connections to anything I wrote last Sunday about the issue of campaign finance.
He apparently just wanted to put words in my mouth and offer his misguided interpretation of what he thinks I think about other topics.
Bottom line Mr. Zordich, if Ohioans cannot finance their own referendums and issues, we ought not to be having them.
Jupiter, I have more political experience and knowledge in my little finger then you have in your life. My accounting and political credentials speak for themselves, so I have nothing to prove to anyone, least of all the naysayers on this board.
I didn't make this about SB 5, you, Guin, and fd did. Judging by the hostility, I seem to have struck a chord because I know your name and your game and you don't like that I know how the rules are set up. At least I don't lie to my constituents about the realities of issue politics.
For the record, anyone can shoot fish in a barrel like you people do in the Democratic Party. Just because you can't win in Mahoning County as a Republican doesn't mean I don't know how to win. Anyone can run a good political race when they are backed by the faith and credit of the unions and Democratic Machine.
Try to run races without it like we do, you wouldn't last a year. But guess what- I'm still here. Get the picture?
Maybe the Democrats should put every vote by the General Assembly up for referendum.
This is the vote I want Bertram: Ohio referendums should only be financed by money raised in the State of Ohio.
That way your union buddies can't call in the cavalry from Washington D.C. when things happen in this state they don't approve of but can't finance themselves.
You want a newspaper? Try the Tribune Chronicle. We should petition to get them to expand circulation to Mahoning County so we can have some semblance of fairness in media reporting.
Bertram, you should thank your lucky stars you still have a job in this town given how politically inept YOU are.
If the Republicans are so inept, why don't you come over and show us how it is done. Put your own reputation on the line, for how little it is already worth.
WC, I have a problem with the racist argument because it has been used too often to detract from the real issues and puts the accused on the defense to avoid talking about the real issues of a job.
Why beat around the bush on this. This area is ethnically and culturally divided, perhaps more so than most parts of the U.S. That said, I have heard "racist" remarks around the Mahoning Valley for decades.
And at this time when there is so much on the stake for prosecutor, the first time since 1996, we are going to drag it out in the forefront and make a big deal about this NOW?
Like a bunch of elementary school students--they called me a name! He's picking on me!
If you are going to choose to elect or not elect someone based on an off hand comment about Barack Obama, that is pretty pathetic.
Italians are called all sorts of names, and no one here is whining about it. Slovaks are called all sorts of names and they are not whining about it. Irish and Greeks take enough abuse, but they do not whine about it.
How about we get back to talking about the job of the Prosecutor's Office, qualifications, and abilities rather than turn this race into a circus like it has been over a text message about Barack Obama!
Paul Gains. Jay Macejko. What have they accomplished, what is their background, who will do the better job for Mahoning County?
That is what this race SHOULD be about, not this nonsense published by de Souza.

State budget surplus justifies revisiting funding for schools
You guys do know a majority of those cuts were FEDERAL and not state right?
And you also know of those $1 billion in cuts, they came from the Federal Stimulus Package?
Here is the question. If schools survived before the one time stimulus windfall, why can't they survive NOW?

Voter referendums are a threat to Ohio and should be reined in

Forgive me, but it is absurd.
