Same Old Jimbo

I am no Jim Trafficant supporter, and as a marketing guy, he is a PR nightmare for the valley, however I do have an open mind and do believe he was able to "TALK" a good game about what was right and fighting for the underdog. For that reason, he would be great on talk radio and I recommend him replacing Rush Limbaugh on WKBN.

Things that amaze me: People would vote for a convicted felon because, 'he did so much good for the vallley.' Think people! It was HIS JOB to do good for the Valley, you can still do your job and be a thief!! No different from having an accountant that makes sure you get the most out of your taxes each year, he is doing his job, but he uses the same loopholes to steal from his clients and is convicted. Still did good accounting for his people, but he is a crook and should not be trusted with money again. Jim is still a crook and should not be trusted with public office again.

Second excuse I hear, 'He is not as crooked as so and so.' Okay, so you are telling me you like crooked people, felons, law breakers, but only if they break the law a little bit. How embarrasing is that thinking? You are saying, well, yea, he is a crook, but he is not as big a crook as him, so lets still vote in a crook!

I can appreciate passion by his friends, but passion should not intefere with reason and common sense. over 200 of the Congressmen who voted him out are still in Congress, do you think ANY of them will work for him? He would be a powerless legislator. Support him as a free man who paid his debt, but not as a hero that should be voted back in to office, that is pure stupidity. He would be ineffective, and he is NOT a rehabilitated felon, as last night shows, he is the same person that went into jail. So sad.

Realty rises to reality

As a study in marketing, it's quite a challenge. There needs to be amenities close by and there currently is none. For a fiscally responsible person, rent should be about 1/4 of your income. At the median range that would mean you should be making $86,400 dollars a year to live there. Even at the cheapest, you would need to be making $57,600 dollars a year to be fiscally responsible. I believe they will be hard pressed to find 21 more tenants making that kind of money that wants to live in downtown Youngstown at the moment.

I do NOT agree that there is not a re-birthing of downtown, with many restaurants as the first step, hopefully retail and grocery wont be too far behind. Username Already Exists, must be someone who does not go downtown, or has not been there in a long time. I personally have gone to over 15 events downtown over the Summer, and enjoyed most every one.

Back to marketing 101, they could rent those apartments with some creativity. Not to the average Joe, but to Doctors and Judges and Lawyers who live out of the area, For Larger business who fly in clients or work with people out of town such as banks, big industrial, etc. The economy is not good in Youngstown, but that doesnt mean there arent people who live and work here without means and money. That is myopic view of the situation.

Scrappers scrap Traficant Release Night promotion

Excellent marketing move! Don't believe the lie that even bad publicity is good. Bad publicity is what it is, Bad. They may have heard of you now, but it puts a bad taste in their mouth. You are now taking advantage of both bad and good publicity. It will serve you much better in the long run. Besides the article said only 90+ took advantage of the program last time, not a hit by any means.

Denounce Criminal Jim Traficant

It's Official, Chris Mathews Hardball, Nationally shown on MSNBC, just made fun of the Scrappers night honoring Jim Trafficant. Embarrasing! Time for the Mahoning Valley to be a Laughing Stock again!! Sigh!

‘Welcome home Jimbo’ countdown

Jimbo should be welcomed home by family and friends in the privacy of their home, but to suggest he deserves a "Hero's Welcome," is absurd and the frustration of everyone. So he did good stuff for the Valley, he did bad stuff too, and just because you feel there are others who did "More Bad Stuff Than Jim," shows your ignorance of what is right and wrong. I too think that being away in prison for 7 years, white collar or hard core will change a person, and I hope it has put sense into Jimbo and he realizes he needs to be a private citizen, and if he wants to help out the Valley as one, more power to him, but people need to understand he is a criminal and should not run for public office ever again.

Denounce Criminal Jim Traficant

I too was disappointed at the Vindy's decision to run the Trafficant article on Page One, as opposed to the front page of the local section. Each would have garnered news and reviews, but not making it front and center gives the Vindy less "pandering to popularity" standing to increase sales. As someone who just moved to Ohio as the Trafficant trial was going on, I was both happy to see justice being done, and a little embarrased that I decided to move to a place where Congress had to kick out it's elected representative. As a political junkie, I got many a good natured ribbing about that from back in my old stomping grounds.

I am willing to concede that Jimbo probably did good things for the Valley, but why can't his "supporters" concede he was also a crook! I know of a very nice guy who was very civic minded and a help to his community but also stole from his company and cheated on his wife. I appreciate what he did for the community, but he is still a crook and should not have the public trust back just because.

I also agree with Tyler that a private reception is very appropriate for his friends, but a public venue like the Scrappers and a ticketed fund raiser is ridiculous. Where is the money from the Anthony's money going? If he wants to help out the Valley again, there are many community organizations he can help with, but a run at public office again is not only an embarrasment, but just plain stupid. I also think that 7 years in a prison, no matter how white collar or hard core the population, is going to change a man. If Jimbo comes back the same person as when he left, I am very scared to put him into any position of public service.

I am thinking he should ask Eric Ryan for a position in promoting the Covelli Center, I really wouldnt wish that on Eric or Mr. Covelli, but you just gotta know there is gonna be a push for a plaque on that place for him sometime soon......Sigh!

Vindy reins in talk

Must have had the same inspiration today Tyler, I felt like talking about this on my blog today as well. I also agree that the comments were getting just downright silly and off-topic, I do think it dusted up a bit of a PR nightmare for Vindy, and probably could have been implemented in a more positive way, but as you said, if you wanna rant anonymously, get a blog. Good post!

Vindy.com’s new registration rules aim to raise the level of discourse

Okay, guess I am an idiot, any ol' person can register and talk about the stories, but you do have to register with address and optional phone number for the message boards only. Consistency much?
