Often employees/owners of these stores importune because they have no respect for the people they sell their overpriced goods to. Many of them come from a culture where a woman who is not completely covered is available for sex, or women who are poor are available for sex in exchange for goods. The man who did it did it because he feels he has that power and he was raised in a culture that does not value women.
There is no compassion left in the Mahoning Valley. People fear for their futures, and have done so for so long that many of them have turned to anger and hate, finding someone, another stranger, 'not one of us' to point the finger to. This can be seen in these types of forums: a piece about crime and folks type what they wish they had the nerve to do or say in person, and it's not always pretty. How nice that a prayer breakfast should choose to conjure up positive thoughts, instead of figuring out how to make a real difference. You're either a leader in your community or you're not.
@ #6, youngstown shrimp: 1)you can say it all day, but America is NOT a christian nation. As if Christianity has the moral high ground. You need a history lesson. 2) there is no state program to pay someone's utilities. You can get an abatement, but you still owe the full amount. 3) People who KNOW this woman have stated that she works/goes to school. You know NOTHING about welfare and the people who receive it. I work with these people, and the vast majority want to have a job, a career, etc. You can hide behind the anonymity of an electronic forum, but what are you hiding? One's true self shows best in this venue.
Christianity is neither mainstream nor based on historical fact. And as a 'moral authority' it's riddled with inconsistency and questionable edicts and violence. It has no place in a conversation about society.
Worried is all in a tizzy over how bad Youngstown's 'justice system' is! Isn't aware that the system operates under the same guidelines and laws set at the state and federal level. Worried also wants the cop punished NOW. There's something called a labor agreement, and in that I'm sure it says paid leave until after a trial. And, best of all, a new springtime love affair is blooming between HenryVII and RoKscout. I love how forums such as these are run by emotion, not logic and reason and facts. And really, considering what they're up against, Ytown has a pretty decent police force.
lilduff, You may have taken my comment as a personal attack, but it was in fact just an introduction of some science/logic here. It's true that people living double lives usually do so until a victim speaks up: they are not found out by someone else's intuition. Read about BTK. Or other people, especially sexual predators. They are way better at making you feel comfortable with them than you think. And its a good thing that we can't send people to jail on 'intuition' or 'I have a weird feeling.' There's a reason for that. It's not scientific, thus not provable as true. BUT in this case you have a victim who has nothing to gain by coming forward, and by the types of comments in this forum, lots to lose, especially as she is being villified by all the good people who trust their feelings.

Say the words 'religion' or 'christian' in the newspaper and the fringe comes out of the woodwork. How dare you insult my Santa Claus?

Youngstown police shoots ‘aggressive’ dog 13 times
once or 13 ... what does it matter? I don't think that police should have to deal with anyone's dog when they are pursuing suspects.
