Criminals don't follow the laws. All more laws will do is put more restriction on the 99.99% of gun owners who are NOT mentally impaired and who do follow the law. You know - the ones who AREN'T the problem.

Those who gun people down, lack religious belief & have no fear of killing. The ACLU causes the problem for lack of God in schools & else where. It is a shame but life must keep going to put relegion back in schools, gun control is not the problem.

What a warped society we have when we continue to coddle criminals and demonize citizens who want to protect themselves and their families.

If there were a better country to move to I would do it, but there isn't. This is the best nation on earth because of our Constitution, so let's leave it alone and not mess up our country any further.

Oh...and by the way, let's start enforcing our current laws. Laws can only work when everyone shares in making sure they are enforced.

Without a strong justice system that hands down a severe penalty for crimes commited with a gun, nothing will change. The criminal must be severly punished. New gun laws sound good, but can they be enforced? Gun laws currently on the books must also be enforced.

The general law abiding public needs disarmed. What right do they have protecting themselves or their property?

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say you have the "right" to own 21st century military grade hardwared. After December 14, I am done coddling the wannabe Rambos and conspiracy freaks. There is a difference between a "gun" and an AR 15. There is a difference between 30 round and 7 round magazines. There is a difference between anonymously buying an AK 47 and at least trying to assure a background check. America is turning into an extremist freak show.

"THE "RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS" was written at a time when the only gun in existence was the muzzle-loader, often times fired from the back of a horse.

Today, we have nuclear-powered aircraft carriers that carry bombs powerful enough to wipe out and entire city of 100,000 people in one shot.

In other words; your beloved constitution is obsolete, and anyone who screams "...my constitutional rights!", is just as obsolete.

So Mr. DontBan... you are suggesting our Constitution is no longer applicable, which means you should not have the rights granted to you under the First Amendment - the right of freedom of speech, which means your statement is also obsolete.

History has shown us why it is important for American citizens to have the right to keep and bear arms as well as the rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion. If you look in today's news you will find citizens of other countries who wish they had our Constitutional rights. Don't give them up, because you will never get them back.

Australians are now wishing they'd never given up their arms - crime did NOT go down, as they'd been naive enough to believe. In fact, it increased, since the honest people had no means to defend themselves.

Don't do anything? Is that really the argument to go with when we have thousands of dead people? Maybe criminals wouldn't be able to get their hands on guns if we looked harder at who is buying them and trace them from that person to the crime committed.

we need to also look at the large population who suffer from mental illness. years ago y-town had woodside, a facility that helped and treated those with mental illness. it closed for lack of funding along with thousands of facilities like it around the country. why? where are our priorities? even if there's a semi-automatic gun ban there will be millions of these weapons out there. this is not a solution. start with helping people with mental illness. and also, when someone buys a thousand rounds of ammunition on line, doesn't that send up a red flag? this isn't complicated. a gun ban? impossible. help those with mental problems and put a limit on the amount of ammunition you can buy at any one time. that's our only hope.

Hey McGowan, who " lost" the poll now?

We know how McGowan will spend his morning now, unless McDonalds wants him to come in for an extra shift.

The stories on Vindy this morning include one shooting murder/suicide, which is unarguably the work of a mentally defective person, and a death by stabbing, and a death by clubbing. Why are we only worried about guns?

Sometimes it's hard to tell if I am reading adults or third graders. I hear a lot of passion, but not many facts. Please explain why the AR 15 is an assault weapon? How can it be considered an assault weapon if it can only fire one bullet per trigger pull? I thought fully automatic weapons were already illegal. I am assuming the Vindicator did not photoshop their photo at the gun shop showing a pump 22 which looks ordinary and the AR15 which looks "bad" but apparently has no more punch than any other rifle. So, if the Feds don't pursue the laws we have now--remember Fast and Furious--how is a new law going to help us out other than a way to spend more money? How would a new law have made a difference to the child killed in his sleep in Rockford Village in Youngstown?

A poem by Carl Sandburg.

Here is a revolver.

It has an amazing language all its own.

It delivers unmistakable ultimatums.

It is the last word.

A simple, little human forefinger can tell a terrible story with it.

Hunger, fear, revenge, robbery hide behind it.

It is the claw of the jungle made quick and powerful.

It is the club of the savage turned to magnificent precision.

It is more rapid than any judge or court of law.

It is less subtle and treacherous than any one lawyer or ten.

When it has spoken, the case can not be appealed to the supreme court, nor any mandamus nor any injunction nor any stay of execution in and interfere with the original purpose.

And nothing in human philosophy persists more strangely than the old belief that God is always on the side of those who have the most revolvers.

exactly....If you walk around unarmed you are a weenie....If you live in such fear that you need your gun at all times then you're a REAL MAN.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah a few hundred extra votes in the last day. Nothing at all suspicious about that.
