Do you believe gas will top $5 a gallon this year?

Compared to what Europeans are paying five dollars per gallon is nothing. We need put a value recovery tax on it and get it up to eight dollars per gallon.

I hope goes to 10.00 a gallon right beefore the election, just to get rid of this socialist bum. His own energy secretary wants it, just so hisw green jobs buddies can gewt tax money, then go out of business. If green energy is the will of the people private enterprise will take it and run with it. As long as the gtovernment has anything to do with it it will continue to be the disaster it is.

Using a fuel efficient automobile getting thirty miles per gallon with $9.00 per gallon gasoline the cost would only be thirty cents per mile. This is very affordable.

The problem is, people can't afford $20-30k vehicles, and many times it is not cost effective to buy a hybrid/fuel efficient vehicle unless you travel a lot.

Prior to the election, fuel will hover in the $4.00 range and once the new president, or should I say re-elected president is sworn in again, fuel will rise steadily due to inflation, supply from the middle east, and gauging from players like OPEC keeping the refineries producing fuel at a level that artificially causes a demand that maximizes profit margins.

If gas hits $5, I'll have to quit my job. Go back on unemployment and not drive. I can't pay my bills and afford $5 gas. Tough life out there...

This is all designed to get the public to buy new and more energy efficient cars so the auto manufactuing companies the government bailed out can pay back the government.

In addition, our Commander-in-Chief wants us to wean ourselves away from petroleum based fuels and purchase electric vehicles. Electric vehicles that MAY get you 30 miles a day if you decide to run your heater, radio, windshield wipers or a/c as well. Then there is the issue no one wants to talk about, which is the life span of the batteries and the cost to replace them when they die! Or...what happens when we have a power failure or rolling brown-out due to sudden increased demand and are unable to re-charge our electric vehicles?

And another thought while I have the stage.

Electric vehicles are not true "Green" vehicles because you have to charge their batteries. Guess where the power to charge your electric vehicle comes from...power generated by burning coal, or gas, or nuclear, and/or sometimes hydro. Oh, and by-the-way...all of those just mentioned power generators are under pressure to be shut down by environmentalists and our government.

The typical compact car has a 14 gallon gas tank. At 9 bucks that would be $125 to fill it up.
The typical 2 or 4 door sedan has an 18.5 gallon gas tank and that would be $166 to fill it up.

Yeah, that is verrry affordable, eh?

GW proposed to end the off shore oil drilling and the price of gas fell by 50%.

Since Obama came to town the price has gone nowhere but up.
