Gasoline was $1.79 per gallon here in Youngstown in January 2008 when Obama was sworn to office. Today they are in someplaces in the county 3.59 per gallon!!! That is 100% spike in a much needed commodity. He is killing the middle class!!!

Where do you get your misinformation, dj? The last time gas was around $2.00, let alone under was 2005. You've got your finger pointing all wrong when it comes to who is hurting the middle class.

3cambridge(4066 comments)posted 4 years, 5 months ago

djcey99.....The oil companies set the price of gasoline not the president. If you have any proof that Obama or any other president has ever set the price of gasoline please provide it. The voices in your head don't count.

The price of gasoline has to keep going up or the oil companies couldn't keep making record profits quarter after quarter.

I meant to post "2009" and not "2008". anyways, here's your info and yes gasoline was 1.79 in 2009 in Ohio (on average) when Obama came to office.

Moreover, any elected official to sit idle while gas prices soar 100% needs kicked out of office, it doesn't matter if he's democrat or republican. Google Senator Bernie Sanders. Neither Democrat or Republican supports his bill to regulate market speculation, and thats what we need to help control the price of gas. Help control, is what I said, not fix it, but help control the pirce of gas so we don't get gouged at the pump. We can all sit and discuss and debate green energy all you want, but the majority of the population can't afford to buy a car newer than something that is 10 years old! So some elected official needs to stand up for the lower middle class. Ron Paul has some good ideas for the future. Of course this poll wasn't about Mr. Ron Paul. God Bless.

djicey...I just read your link. I didn't see the part where Obama has any control over the price of gasoline. It's called the free market. I agree with you that the government should step in when oil companies, health insurance companies, predatory lenders and wall street rip off the masses but that would be socialism wouldn't it?

The falacy of this poll is the area that it is taken in. What do you think the people who read these postings will say? This is The Valley for God's sake and the Valley is so pro-democrat the children are born into it and vote the same way their parents have, despite the fact nothing has improved here in the Valley in the past 30 years or 40 years.

People don't vote for Obama because he is Obama, they vote for him because he is a Democrat. If the Democratic party were to endorse Ron Paul and put him on their Presidential ticket, people would vote for him not because they think he would be a good President, but because he is on the Democratic ticket.

Because our nation is divided nearly equal regarding the number of Democrats and Repuplicans who vote, this year's election will be decided by Independent voters. Independent voters truely do look at the candidates and the issues before they make their selections. Track records will be very important.

12jasoninohio(119 comments)posted 4 years, 5 months ago

I agree with Vindyak. Too many people go into the voting booth and simply pick all the Ds or all the Rs. That is absolutely no way to vote. I am a registered Republican, but I can assure you that I vote on average for about 50%-60% of the Repbulicans. The rest are Democrats and Indepenants.

People need to look at the man running for office, not the letter in front of his name. If you were to go back in time to October 2008 and show people where our country was currently.. Show them the state of the economy, and show all the broken promises that have happened over this time frame. IF you asked people if they would vote that person to be president again, it would be an overwhelming NO. But, since Obozo has a D in front of his name, he is going into this with a fighting chance.

Bottom line is, people need to learn about the candidates. Not just what they say, but the broken promises they have made. Romney can only tell you what he would do if elected. Barry has 3+ years in a trail of broken promises. Voting for Obama in November is simply ignorant. Anyone would be better than the fool we have in office now.

It's SO obvious that the international/globalist banksters/financiers who own our Government and who own the MSM that supports their agenda have favored now Mitt. Or, is it Newt?

Ron Paul is the only legitimate candidate. The rest are just puppets of their masters. And that includes those in the MSM.

To all the Obama haters on this site, here is some information on the accomplishments of our current President through his first term thus far...

Gave the green light for a team of Navy Seals to enter a foreign country and kill Osama bin Laden...

Made a very politically risky move by saving General Motors which is now once again the top auto maker...

Cut prescription drug cost for medicare recipients by 50%...

Created more private sector jobs in 2010 than during entire Bush years...

Voluntary disclosure of White House visitors for the first time in US history...

Provided the Department of Veterans Affairs with more than $1.4 billion to improve services to America's Veterans...

Signed the Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act, which provides health care to 11 million kids -- 4 million of whom were previously uninsured...

Issued executive order to repeal Bush era restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research...

Established Credit Card Bill of Rights, preventing credit card companies from imposing arbitrary rate increases on customers...

Tax cuts for up to 3.5 million small businesses to help pay for employee health care coverage...

Require health insurance plans to disclose how much of the premium actually goes to patient care...

Significantly expanded Pell grants, which help low-income students pay for college

And if you doubt anything listed on this post, I can provide links to proof. So go ahead and keep those blinders on if you want but the people who actually pay attention will know who to vote for.

^ And also,

Asked for more executive power to rule over congress,

sent troops to countries we previously did not occupy, such as Libya, Egypt, Pakistan..

Reinstated the Patriot Act giving the gov't full access to what everyone does on their phone, computer, car (Onstar), as well as video equipment in public places such as street corners with traffic cameras,

Allowed recipients of welfare to increase two-fold from previous years, the highest it has ever been in the history of America,

Ordered the assassination of American citizens (some justified),

Bowed down and kissed the ring of the Saudi Arabian King which is an action that shows he is obedient to his master,

Killed the Posse Comitatus bill that limited the power of local, state, and federal gov't which is why we see much more Marshal Law (Occupy Wall Street protests being broken up with tear gas, rubber bullets, flash grenades, as well as checkpoints peppered across the country for no apparent reason),

Established dozens if not hundreds of FEMA camps across the nation that will undoubtedly be used to hold American citizens during times of uprising.

Signed a bill to increase our debt by over a trillion dollars and did nothing to pay it down,

There are countless others, look them up for yourself. Open your eyes!

I, myself am not crazy about our president....but i would never vote for one of the 4 candidates that the gop/tea party has put out there....more importantly for the purposes of our discussion, I would never vote for someone that people like you support.

Most of what cambridge said is absolute, uncontrovertible fact....whereas almost everything you said is an outright lie...so you can act proud by saying you're not a bagger, but you should know that you're way worse than the worst of them.

If you don't want to vote for obama b/c the debt is high or b/c he engaged in a local custom of the country he was visiting and kissed a fellow leaders ring, or b/c he's black then just say it...at least it's based on facts and not made up neo-con lies. Jason....If you are really interested in what Obama has and has not done here is the best list I can come up with. If you or anyone else can come up with a more creatable list I would love to see it.

This list includes promises kept, compromise, promises broken, stalled and in the works. Just click on any of those categories and you get real facts. To truly weigh his administration i suggest you click on them all.

You also claim that Obama can't speak without a teleprompter. Here is a video of Obama at the "House Republicans Conference". He reads a twenty minute speech. Then the republicans read questions he has no prior knowledge of what they would be and answers off top of his head and the results speak for themselves. The republicans got owned. No notes and no teleprompter, just facts and superior intellect. Your welcome.

It really doesn't matter, Obama will win by a bigger margin in the popular vote and will be reelected by a land slide. The republican party will be done with more people walking, I mean running away from it as fast as they can.

Hey cam, I have a better idea. You prove to all of us that my list is wrong.

And don't lump me in with the teabaggers or Rush. I will admit that I do watch Fox News. I also watch CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and about any network that has the news. I read the Vindicator, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, USA Today and a few other newspapers on a regular basis.

See, what I do, being educated, is I get several differant views on an idea. I contact my Congressman and my Senators and get information about bills and legislation. I talk to people and listen to the opinions of people with views differant than mine. Then, and only then, do I make a choice. I would never put Rush up as the face of any organization. I would never align myself with the 'Teabaggers' or the 'Occupy' movements. I am an indepenent thinker. You should try it. You want to call someone brainwashed, you should look in the mirror.

Jason....There is a big difference between opinion and fact.

In post #23 youngstown_strong posted a list and represented that list as fact. He/She then offered to back up anything on the list with a link. In other words that list is represented as fact because it is.

In post #25 you you provided a list and represented it as fact.

In post $26 I asked you to do the same as what youngstown_strong offered and provide links to back up what you posted.

In every one of your post since you refuse to post a link to back up anything on your list. As peacelove points out, if your list is common knowledge how hard is it to post those links? In my book that turns your list that you represent as fact into nothing more than your opinion.

In post #33 I post a link to all of Obama's promises along with their results. I could have just as easily only posted the promises he kept but i didn't, I included the promises he didn't keep and one's he made compromises on. In other words I posted facts not opinion.

If you or anyone else wants to go through that ENTIRE list of facts and then form the opinion that Obama was not the right choice in 08 or that mitt or newt are a better choice in 2012 then I accept that. That's the difference between someone posting opinions with nothing to back it up and someone else posting facts along with links to back them up or offering to do so if asked.

Doubled- I am more as educated as anyone else. I went to college. All though I didn't graduate, by grades were better than average. Why is it that if someone doesn't agree with the other side it is seen as propaganda? Had someone posted a list about Bush and it was true, there really wouldn't be much anyone would be able to say.

Cam- What link do you want me to post regarding the fact that this nation is divided like it hasn't been in 150 years? You want more, just google the words Obama and deficit. You will get about 20 websites, some left wing, some right wing, but they all say the same thing- The defict it higher now than ever before. ANd I watched you cspan video, I would love to know what part of the clip he was 'owning' the opposition.

Facts are Obama is a used car salesman. He likes to use a lot of fancy talk and big words. He likes to blame the last administration, he likes to blame Congress, he likes to blame everyone but himself.

I gave Obama a chance when he got elected, i really did. My thoughts were, that if he can make a change for the better then what does it matter if he has an R or a D in fromt of his name. The facts are he has been a huge disappointment in office.

I know people in the valley are biased towards the Dems, have been for years. But, I would think after years of demise and years of economic dowfall that the Valley would at least consider voting for a person and not a letter. If the valley is happy eating the sh!tburgers that people wike Obama and Tim Ryan keep serving up, be my guest. I want something better and I would hope the rest of you would too.

Peace, I agree to an extent with what you say. The blame is on more than just Obama; you have Congress, you have state and local leaders as well.

Politics have become more partisan than ever, and i doubt a change is coming anytime soon. Whether you are on the left or the right, or a Democrat or a Republican, or a Tea Pary or an Occupier, or if you are none of the above; people need to be smart when they are voting. Nothing burns me more than a Republican that votes along party lines, or a Democrat that does the same. I wish politicians would be forced to go into the next election without a letter in fromt of their name. If we made all these clowns stand alone on their records, 99% of them would be out of a job.

You can disagree with anyone you want for as long as you want. That's fine. There is absolutely nothing wrong with disagreeing on an issue. The problems arise when the position which you take is unsupported by the information of which you rely. The problems becomes worse when you hold your ground on a position due to false information, because you believe that information to be a "fact". Opinons vary, facts don't. Facts are constant and frozen in time. A snapshot, if you will, that is not subject to photshopping. And everyone is entitled to their own opinon, but not your own facts. J-in-ohio stated that the laundry list of Obama's failures were facts. But they weren't. Rather, it was a list of his opinions about the president regarding certain issues. Yes, the debt is huge, and must be put under control, and right now that is the job of the president and our congress to do together. BUt if you are unable to acknowledge that the gop added significantly to that debt prior to 2008 (which is a FACT), then there is no need for any further discussions. So you can disagree, just don't give me your opinion and scream that it is a fact. Because then you're just lying and you've lost all credibility.
