Quail, I voted yes. I also agree that EVERYTHING needs to be addressed including welfare and all of the extended unemployment benefits that are nothing more then entitlements for some people NOT to work. Make people "earn" their welfare and unemployment money (clean neighborhoods, cut lawns, paint guardrails, etc.)
There are handicapped people that need assistance but not all of the freeloaders on these programs.
Cuts need to be made across the board BEFORE there is any talk of tax increases.

Flat out NO !!!

Social security and Medicare are earned benefits. They're not welfare nor unemployment and the recipients are time tested Americans that's contributed to our nation. One has to be a senior to even start drawing their benefits and they're in no position to be viable front runners in the employment sector.

Hence to even entertain cutting from either of those life programs. Wouldn't only be a gross act of theft. But for whom they're targeting would be the most sadistically inhumane thing that can be invoked. That's aside from starting wars to get the least economically empowered young killed based upon a litany of lies. To wit there's a distinct correlation of specific faction that epitomizes that,.. as well as them pushing to steal from the poor.

The budget can and should be all too easily balanced, By reducing the Industrialized military spending. As well as making corporations and the extraordinarily financially wealthy. Pay their fair share for the fruits and labor that the poor and middle class. Mind you that's the mass of humanity that has and continues to provide them and us all. With a running mechanism by way of labor, national defense, goods and services providers, market base and patrons. Who aren't just territorial cohabitants but the larger body that comprise the majority of the populous that affords us this America we all share.

Irony is those that seek to prey upon the least financially wealthy. To me are those that needs to be deported out of the country. American values is honoring and respecting other Americans. For which when there becomes a desire to eradicate those of less financial wealth. Then it'd be the tolerance of orchestrating the beginning to a vast ending of the nation.

Via way of cuts and ingenuity reforms that's needed. I feel various self induced SSI claimants should be revamped. I feel welfare recipients should be required to attend classes in schools of trade to enhance their self sufficiency. As well as those of durable incarceration should be billed for their subsistence. And mandated to perform controlled labor tasks to financially assist in the cost of their incarceration.

Hence I'm not for handing out any free rides for anybody except kids and the disabled. For which neither Social security nor medicare even remotely qualifies as any free ride. Nor would I even classify supporting the quality of life and enhanced social order for the children and we fellow Americans as adults any free ride either,...

All who voted yes are free to not take SS or midacare . Just give it back and save all of us money . As nunya said Social security and Medicare are earned benefits .

Nunya,
Yes SS is a earned benefit BUT how many people draw out of this program that never paid into it? Is that fair to us that paid into it? there are other federal "entitlement" programs in the federal government that could pay for these people (the ones that really are entitled) and not take it out of the SS fund.

Of course social security and medicare should and will be cut.

The teabagger/republican priorities are trillions in tax cuts for the top 3% so we can keep their tax rate as low as it has been in decades. Corporate welfare so oil companies, GE and others are exempt from paying taxes and keep receiving billions in tax subsidies like the tobacco growers and corporate farmers have gotten for as long as i can remember.

Thank God for the teabagger/republicans, now we can stop wasting our tax dollars on education, police, fire and the welfare of our senior citizens.

It's going to be fun watching those old fart teabaggers with their walkers trying to buy health insurance with a 15 thousand dollar voucher. Try and imagine a person in their 70's or 80's with preexisting conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or cancer trying to buy insurance for 15 grand or pay for assisted living or a nursing home.

Me, I could care less if I ever collected SS and I have as good a health care plan as you can buy for next to nothing through my UNION and will have it for the rest of my life. Good luck to the rest of you because now you have that teabagger/republican congress you deserve.

Hey my fellow Americans,..

To take an entertaining pause in the seriousness of this debate. We have to laugh whenever we can and we've got a real dumb dumb doozie among us,.. don't we " rudy "

Hence, I'd like for the readers to have noticed that after having shared my perspective around 18 hours ago A mere troll pet posturing as a tool for the thieves that seek to deceive you. Has fastidiously toiled to skew the polling graft. From what was like 128 votes against the fleecing to like 22 that were favoring fleecing the program.

See where in a matter of just over 11 hours after " rudy " posted his haiku hiccup where he merely lied and whined.

SHAZZAMM,.. There was this " miraculous " turnabout in the graph depicted polling numbers. Where in that scant period of time. the polling graph shifted from 128 against and 20 something favoring fleecing. To a whopping 165 favoring fleecing to only 135 opposing,.. who's ordered the red herring?

Folks that's how " rudy " and the reprobates roll. Hence, in their typ of hilarity, clearly to have clicked and re-click his mouse that many times. It's without question that little pathetic stoogius- maximus rudy's mouse clicker and claw clefted fingers. Must be as comparably tired as he is irrefutably stupid,.. ROTFFLMAO !!!

Give it up for " rudypoot " ladies and gents. He's been at it for hours and he thinks YOU'RE the ones that's stupid. That said I urge you to keep going there rudy the ridiculous. Where in your world surely you're gonna change public perspectives by hijacking a Vindy graph { and boy do you ever make me laugh },.. ROTFFLMAO !!!

Ya know rudy,... the only question you leave one to ponder. Isn't just how " stoopid " are you. But just how much even stupider than that those like you " is ",.. ROTFL !!!

Everything should be on the table.

Defense bring all our troops home not one more base over sea. Then figure out how big of army we need to defend our country and patrol the borders. Get rid of anything more then that.

Tax code needs to be thrown out and a new flat tax system put in its place with no deductions or exemptions.

SSI, Medicare, need redone ssi/medicare need to be only for those that have worked and put in that system and are old enough to be retried.

End Medicaid, foodstamp, welfare throw the whole system out and start over with a system that only gives help to those that cant work due to a major disablity. Not to people that dont want to work. If they wont work let starve!

Stop all aid to all other countries first. Do away with DBE set aside programs which increase all government project costs by 20%. Stop all research grants for stupid subject matter(frogs?) and also eliminate free education and free medical treatment to illegal immigrants.
Forget this stupid space exploration garbage. It benefits no one but useless government employees.
There would money to educate and medicate and subsidize all true Americans forever >Infinity

samlam....stop space exploration? Ah, do you realize that when you pressed "post comment" what you typed on your computer was sent to a satellite in space and then sent to a remote server then to the Vindy server and finally to the article you commented on?

Do you use a cell phone or a land line? Communication satellites.

Do you have cable or satellite TV?

Do you know that the people directing the drones in the Middle East are firing them from a location in America.

I could go on and on but I'm hoping you get the point.

There are many things that shouldn't be cut -- Medicare, Social Security, Education funding, safety funding. However our government doesn't really seem as if they are in touch with those of us in the working class. So, if one must take a cut then they all must take a cut. If education and safety funding are taking cuts then so should medicare and social security. None of them should be cut in my opinion.

Informant4U....Should the taxes on the top 3% be raised 4% to generate trillions in revenue to run the government or are they be exempt from making a sacrifice like the other 97% of us.

The cut off for contributing to SS is around $110,000. Should that be raised to $250,000 or let SS be cut. I hit the cut off point almost every year and I've never made over $135,000. So if I'm at the cut off point and me paying all year instead of not paying after the cut off point would have had no real effect on my life style or my long range financial future doesn't it make sense for people making millions to not contribute all year?

No reduction is appropriate. This is not entitlement since workers have paid FICA taxes since 1935. The are deducted from earnings and are today are collected at a rate of 7.65% on gross earnings. The breakdown of FICA is 6.2% for Social Security (Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance) from first $106,800 and 1.45% for Medicare unlimited income. Our President lowered the FICA for 2011 by 2% thereby putting the system once again in further stress. The "locked box" raided again by our goverment. (Note:Self employed workers pay the full 15.3% whilst some have special retirement plans and do not pay into the system and do not collect.) Raise the limits on FICA fro SS to $175,000 which is the same number for increased Medicare B premiums to kick in as passed by Bush 43.
