the key word is"was". Previously Kelly WAS interested in his fan base but not any more because "he has enough money" and doesn't have to be concerned about the people that followed him when he was climbing up the ladder of success and even AFTER he fell of off the ladder and tried climbing back the people were still behind him ---not any longer!!
Despite all his excuses, I think Pavlik has lost his 'heart.' He's saying without actually saying that he doesn't want to fight any more.
I hope he finds something else to do, but stiffing Bob Arum at the last minute probably closed a few doors for him, if he wants to stay within the sport of boxing.

unfortunately, no. he has self-destructed. unless/until he is able to get his life on track again and deal with his addiction problems, his boxing career is done.
