Are the commissioners going to pay the taxes that are due? They were warned before they made this purchase. If I was a y-town school board member I would be screaming for the $700,000 that is owed to the schools. These commissioners have to GO.
"Expecting the taxpayer to pay for such luxuries is outlandish."
What luxuries? If they were renting such a facility, they would be paying for the same things, (rolled into the rental price) AND a profit for the landowner.
"As a renter / lessee you are not responsible for the total property insurance, nor do you have to pay for capitol expenditures like roof replacement, new windows, etc."
The renter pays rent to cover those costs, AND profits for the land owner.
Keep in mind: the county had been paying Cafaro $449,000 annually to rent Garland Plaza - in addition to being responsible for all utilities and capital improvements for the property. It was also stated at the time that Cafaro could raise rent from $4.41/sq ft to $12-$20/sq ft.
I fail to see how Oakhill is a worse deal than leasing Garland Plaza from Cafaro.
The misconceptions and misunderstandings surrounding Oakhill are just incredible.
The county was NOT paying rent to Cafaro Comapny for the Garland Plaza location. The rent was covered by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS).
By the way, have you seen the former Southside Hospital recently? I drove by a few days ago. How pathetic the place looks ... weeds growing in the parking lot; boarded-up windows!
Plus I heard that the workers there hate it. I guess it was freezing cold all winter because the county couldn't afford the gas bill if they'd have kept it at a reasonable temperature.
This was truly a bad move for Mahoning County. We'd have been better off building a brand new building, like some of the office holders said.
They ought to look into the motivation of those who actually wanted to buy Oakhill. There's the true wrongdoing.

No. Thankfully we sent a message by voting out Ludt this month. When Traficanti's time is up, we need to vote him out too!
No I do not!! Also, I don't trust the commissioners and the way they run the county finances.
