It's been an amazing year for me personally. But, on a broader scale, our world, our country, and our community have been through the grinder, but finally seems to be recovering, albeit slowly. Things are getting better, and hopefully the tough times we've experienced together will make us stronger . . . together.
A sincere "Happy Holidays" wish to all of you. No matter what holiday you celebrate, I hope it is the best one ever.
Did they ever really have Xmases where the gift was an orange, or a pair of new socks ? If so, that's the Christmas I would vote for as the best. 55 years ago when I was a kid there was a $10 limit on gifts for each of us kids. Now I understand that $10 in 1955 was probably more like $100 in 2010 but we only got one toy each since in those days there wasn't a China cranking out these toys for pennies on the dollar. Yes, I felt disappointed each and every Xmas because I saw on TV that there were more fabulous toys that I could never hope to get. But now, not getting those toys is not what I regret. It is having wanted them or being convinced by the advertisers that I wanted them that I regret. I never needed those toys and I especially never needed to believe that I needed them. The real Christmas was the things we did together such as putting up the tree, decorating, cooking and eating together, welcoming friends and family who invariably came to wish us well - hundreds of them, all day long, uninvited but not unexpected. And of course going to Midnight mass and then coming home singing carols. That was the true Christmas. It's not that I dislike Santa Claus. I like Santa Claus just as much as I like Jesus but I think the real spirit of Santa should be of sharing with others in need rather than greedy. I don't want my kids to grow up greedy and unaware of other people's situations. I want them to see Xmas as a time of generosity and sharing not overinduling.
The Tea Party didn't get rid of Christ and they certainly didn't try to bring Socialism in like Obama has. December 25th is Christmas if you don't like it don't celebrate it.
If something so insiginificant as the tea party is able to "get rid of Christ" as you say, then what does that say about the durability of your lord?
Quite frankly, aren't you a little embarrassed to admit that this little band of lunatics is strong enough to get rid of your god? I would hope that, after 2000 years of immortality, Christ would be a little stronger than you suggest.
And, you all wonder why so many of us choose to celebrate the solstice instead of the birth of your lord?!?! Solstice will always be here . . . no political movement will ever be able to change that.

Holiday Mood:
Christ is the reason behind the season.
The tea party got rid the Christ and brought in hate. UP UP with the TEA party !!!!!
I firmly voted "Santa Claus."
