Let's try a white person in the Youngstown superintendent role. It's obvious the last black superintendent was a failure - academic emergency and state takeover in place. Race has nothing to do with the person's ability to do this job or be successful.
I gotta say this is a dumb racist bait question which the Vindy should know better then ask.
It would be a bad move to hire a white as superintendent . They would despise having a white tell them what to do . Being lax academically is all about freedom . Having to study is equated with enslavement . Youngstown has a social structure that is steeped with culture . The work ethic is lacking on both sides of the racial spectrum . We now have several generations that haven't worked .
Good education is color blind. Youngstown public schools used to be as good as any in the nation. Having spent 20 years in Cleveland I witnessed the hiring and firing of at least three school superintendents chosen based on race and look where Cleveland city schools are today....not much better off than Youngstown. Good families who place emphasis on good education and who require their children to learn coupled with good interested teachers and adequate learning tools should be enough! We don't necessarily need expensive school facilities....they help but only if those other things are in place and stressed each and every day! My parents expected me to behave and do well in school...they wanted me to have a better life than they had and knew education was the way. That's all we need now!

That's a stupid question.
Who came up with this question, Ernie Brown?
You can't be serious. Are you trying to start a riot? What is wrong with you? A REALLY STUPID QUESTION!!
One of the few instances where a question can also be an answer.
Instead of flagging a comment as offensive, I would like to flag this question as offensive.
Very stupid question. A superintendent's race has no bearing on a school's success.
And who voted "yes"?
well, thats today's society we live in. it's ok to hand somebody a job simply for being black.
on the other hand, hiring somebody because they're white brings out sharpton and jackson.
Hire the guy from Campbell. You won't have to pay him as much.
Let's go neutral and hire an Oriental . Most are smart and they would know how best to train the kids .
