We don't need a mosque there to memorialize the magnificent nineteen who died on 9-11-01 . We still mourn the thousands who died at their hands !

The right to build it is the law of the Land . If you do not like it , change the Constitution . I'm not sure they ( the Muslims ) care what people feel about it . The most sacred thing in this country is the Constitution , It is what makes us America .

"The right to build it is the law of the Land"

This is not so . . ..

You can't just build where you desire to . Islam can practice their religion of hate wherever they choose but nowhere is building where you choose sanctioned .

Would you 26 that voted YES still feel that way if it was your brother, sister, mom, dad, cousin, fiance, husband, wife that parished that day. This is AMERICA, one nation under GOD. Don't step on that sacred American tradition and put your mosque up to symbolize your ruthless hate for us Americans and our beliefs.

What is amusing is the fact that Islamic immigrants come here to get away from cesspools of human misery . Memories dim over time and they long to reconnect with their past . When the planes hit the Twin Towers they cheered . When the plane stuck the Pentagon they cheered . When the plane dived into the earth in Pennsylvania they were baffled . Yes, those heroes in the plane flying over Pennsylvania took on Islam and prevented massive carnage on the next intended target . It is time to take on Islam once again in memory of those who died at Ground Zero and not allow allow Islamics to cheer when the mosque is built .

Check out the article about mosques being built as "victory mosques" on battle sites.

It's disgusting.

Would you care if a Burlington Coat Factory store was open in the proposed location of the "Ground Zero Mosque"? Well guess what, that is the store that was using the space before the mosque was planned.

It is also not at the Ground Zero site. It is 2 city blocks away. That is approximately one mile from the Ground Zero site.

The terrorists who attacked our country and killed innocent people in the Pentagon and Twin Towers were not following the teachings of the Muslim faith and more than Tim McVeigh was a christian following the teaching of Christ.

Finally, I want to know if these same critics would be protesting a christian church opening on or near the Oklahoma City building that was attacked by a "christian" terrorist?

There is nobody wanting to build a church at the Alfred P. Murrah building location to preach hate against Christians . There however is a group with millions ready to build and preach hate against Christians at Ground Zero . We were not attacked by Christians on 9-11-01 NOR DID CHRISTIANS CHEER WHEN THE TWIN TOWERS WENT DOWN ! We owe the Islamics nothing ! Not even a building site at Ground Zero !

I don't think it's a good idea to build this mosque/community center at this site. But, really, how can they legally be prevented from doing so?

ZONING LAWS ! Declare the area off limits for new construction building places of worship .

On the plane over Pennsylvania political correctness was not discussed when the Islamics were diverted from their intended target and the plane was crashed into the ground . How would those who perished on 9-11-01 feel about a shrine at Ground Zero being built to memorialize the attackers ?

"ZONING LAWS ! Declare the area off limits for new construction building places of worship "

Stan, wouldn't changing an area's zoning open them up for a discrimination lawsuit? Can someone provide examples where zoning was used as a preventative tool instead of a planning tool?

Even if changing the zoning successfully prevented them from building the mosque, I think it's likely they would still build their community center there. And, they would still be subject to American terrorists. (which is why I think this is a bad idea, in the first place)

And, BTW, if such a zoning change was made, St. Nicholas wouldn't be able to be rebuilt, either.

Those who diverted the plane into the ground when it was over Pennsylvania headed to DC didn't worry about political correctness . Let them build that memorial to the magnificent 19 who attacked us on 9-11-01 on a barge in the bay . I'm sure that an old garbage barge could be sold to them for the foundation .

The building of a mosque near the sight of the 9/11 massacre is their equivalent of the Marines and Navy corspsman raising the American flag on Mt. Suribachi as a symbolic victory for the capturing of Iwo Jima by the Americans. This will be the muslims memorial of a victory.

The location is already used as a place of Muslim worship.

@ Lifes2Short: They have a history of building their "victory mosques" on sites of their victories. It's contentious and meant to stir up emotion. It's an insult to all who lost their lives that day.

This argument is so ignorant. How many people who voted "no" have actually met a muslim? The 9/11 terrorists hijacked their faith as well as planes.
Also, Ground Zero is huge. It's not like it's right next door to the memorial there will be a mosque with spires and whatever. Also, there's already a mosque about 5 blocks away.
Terrorists spread fear among Islam, saying that Americans are evil, and don't want them to practice their faith. There's nothing more American than showing acceptance.
The Imam of the proposed mosque has publicly denounced terrorism, and seeks to preach a moderate form of the faith.

@Siouxi: Victory mosque? Are you kidding me? You're actually going to use that biased, unfounded website as a reference? Go educate yourself.

"Terrorists spread fear among Islam, saying that Americans are evil, and don't want them to practice their faith"

The faith of Islam was practiced on 9-11-01 . Their goal is to wipe out Christianity along with the Jews . Political correctness allowed 9-11-01 to happen . Political correctness allowed the slaughter at Fort Hood Texas to happen . In the sky above Pennsylvania the passengers of a jetliner not worrying about political correctness stopped Islams plans on attacking DC by plunging the plane into a field .

Watch the Jon Stewart video in this link that shows Fox News going from no problem with the Mosque too outrage. The video also shows the Fox News connections with terrorist.

Before anyone says Jon Stewart shouldn't be taken seriously, he is showing actual Fox News clips and giving truthful information on Rupert Murdoch and his connections with the Saudi Royal Family.

Hey rudy....If your truly a "critical thinker" you would know that there is no more of a connection of the people that flew the planes into the buildings with Islam than Tim McVeigh being connected with Christianity. None, zero, zip, nada.

Hey cambridge . . ..

If they can get of those who died on 9-11-01 to support their execution by Islam then Islam should be supported . Right now I see Islam's goal of wiping out the Jews and Christians as wrong . To show no bias I say build that memorial to the magnificent 19 on a garbage barge in the bay .

The common argument is we can't blame all Muslims for the action of a few. In the last 15 years since McVeigh I do believe all attacks on the USA or our properties have been committed by Muslims. There is approximately 2.5 million Muslims in the USA. How many does it take to kill Americans? One at Fort Hood, nineteen on 9/11. Unless someone accusing me of being Islamaphobic can pick out the next nineteen now, then I won't quit looking at all Muslims as potential murderes.

To ensure a better understanding of Muslims, one must look at their history. Throughout history they have invaded, destroyed and maimed cultures. They destroy churches, buildings and memories of the previous inhabitants. Their goal, convert by either peaceful means or by the sword. The mosque is just another example of them lording their victory to the rest of the muslim world. I say, Be Aware America..

If the current zoning laws inthat area permit the construction of a place of worship, then they have a right to build it. (From what I read, their are nearby adult video stores and a brothel.) It doesn't make it right and, in my opinion, if the Muslims want to foster a peaceful climate, they would not build it there. The entire move is meant to incite unrest. I have the right to dress like a Klansman, but would it be wise for me to then walk in South Central LA? It is difficult to protect people from their own idiocy. So, let them build it and suffer the consequences of the wrath of the American people. Just don't ask me to protect you!

It's clear there's no point in my wasting time trying to make a point about this mosque argument. The tunnel vision here is stunning.

Each time I look at vindy.com, I come here with renewed hope that I'll see some advancement upward from stone age thinking. But, no. Most of you are frozen in time and clinging to outdated, poorly reasoned, reactionary thinking ... never bothering to analyze past the first line you read somewhere or watch on the boob tube.

Scroll through these pages. It simplifies things.
