Do you believe the proposed tax-refund plan by President Bush and Congress will stimulate the U.S. economy?

Adequate paying jobs will heal the economy, not a small tax refund. I'll see if Bush will send mine straight to Exxon-Mobil. They will see most of it anyway.

The economy must correct itself through the normal economic cycle that has been present since the early 1900's. Artificial aid will only slow the inevitable.
If anybody doesn't want their check, like the person above, I will take it.

If the question is: Will the people who receive the unearned income spend it, then the answer is of course yes.

If the question is: Will this small increase in spending temporarily stimulate the economy, then the answer is yes (but barely).

Perhaps the better solution would be to fix the cause of the slowdown in what has otherwise been a robust economy. That would require tax cuts (both capital gains and income), cut discretionary spending, and reduce both debt and the deficit. This wont happen, of course, because our government is broken.

This is a "tax rebate" in name only. Most who pay no taxes will get the money. Many who pay taxes wont. Those who get deductions for dependents will get extra.

Our government is broken.

Do not count on the "Funny money" to soon. Seniors will not get anything any how. By the time it arrives, if it does, 25% of those eligible @ the time will be deceased. Those that are still alive, do not hold Your breath for it to arrive, You may increase the 25% number. Just another act of action in stupidity by Bush & Cheney. Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outsourced jobs caused this recession. Huge pockets of poverty areas across America where people can't even buy cheap "made in China" product. A small $600 refund check won't replace the millions of lost $60,000 dollar a year jobs. Bush destroyed our country. 700 billion dollars spent on the Iraq war hasn't sparked our economy, how can $145 billion on rebate checks do it? Things will only get worse.

rmzrez, just what are you babbeling about? Kill 600,000? What? 600,000 American jobs? The real numbers are much higher than that. Well into the millions. It may be better if you simply read the posts and not contribute any statements. You make no sense.

A $600 rebate is not a fix for the economy. Good paying jobs, not minimum wage jobs is the cure. When imports are being produced using 25 cent an hour labor how can we compete.

Tariffs on products made using almost slave labor and equal blocking measures against countries like Japan. They make it so expensive to buy an American car in Japan that the average worker can not afford one.

The steel industry went under due to poor management and dumping by foreign competitors. The automotive industry is following the same path.

Look at Delphi they just got approval to give $16.5 million in bonuses to the managers who led the company into bankruptcy. They only lost $231 million last month !!!! Stop giving management bonuses for losing money, let the leaders take reductions like the workers. They have more responsibility for the poor performance and should take at least an equal reduction in pay and benefits.

The national debt increased during the terms of all recent Presidents. What is amazing is that the debt increased during W's term despite record federal government revenue (tax revenue stimulated by a booming economy after income tax cuts). Entitlement spending is a greater outlay for the Feds than national defense, including money spent in the GWOT, including Iraq.

President Bush is the last Republican President. He has known this, and has signed gross spending bills on entitlements and pork in order to appear "compassionate." But nobody can outspend the Democrats. It has basically become vote-buying. Furthermore, the entitlements are never enough for the recipients. If the distribution was $6,000 instead of $600, the question would become, "Why wasn't it $60,000! Why is the government letting us suffer like this!"

The Federal government has gotten itself in such a fix that it will someday (perhaps soon) that it will not be able to pay for essential services, let alone crazy entitlements like Hilliary's $5,000 bonus for having a child. The dollar will continue to lose value and someday no tax increase will cover even the interest on the debt.

We can all talk trash about Carter and both Clintons, and be entirely accurate. This hate speech by the left really exposes them as the party of hate, entitlements and ignorance.
